New Zealand’s national football teams have a new look — which, to be honest, isn’t much different than their old look — thanks to the country’s new partnership with manufacturer Puma.
New Zealand Football and Puma rolled out new kits for the country’s national teams on Wednesday, January 31. They’ll be worn by national teams at all levels, including the All Whites (men’s national team), the Ferns (women’s national teams), men’s and women’s youth teams, men’s and women’s futsal teams and eFootball.
The black kits have a “silver and grey camouflage background with black fern accents,” according to NZ Football. The country’s famous white fern badge remains on the left chest, while white Puma logos appear on the left chest and sleeves. The front half of the V-neck collar is black, while the back half is grey.
The white kit, meanwhile, has a subtle teal wave pattern all over. The white fern again appears on the left chest, outlined in black. The front half of the V-neck collar is also teal, a color that represents “the natural beauty of the country.”
The black kit is paired with black shorts, while the white kit has both white and teal shorts options.
The new Puma kits aren’t much of a stretch from New Zealand’s previous Nike-manufactured kits, which they wore at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The Nike black kits also featured a tonal pattern, and the white kits also featured teal accents.
New Zealand Football and Puma announced their partnership in December 2023, making New Zealand the 12th national team outfitted by Puma. “This is an exciting new partnership that will take our national teams and New Zealand Football to the next level,” NZ Football chief executive officer Andrew Pragnell said in a press release at the time. “PUMA’s commitment to excellence aligns with our ambition as a football association to continually raise the bar for the game in New Zealand. Football is the biggest participation sport in the country and this partnership will give it the support it deserves to continue that amazing growth.”
Both new Puma kits will make their debut during the upcoming Oceania Football Conference Women’s Olympic Qualifier in Samoa. The Ferns kick off their tournament on Wednesday, February 7, with a match against Tonga.
