The Sioux Falls Stampede of the United States Hockey League have gone to the dogs — and they couldn’t be happier.
The South Dakota-based junior team will once again take the ice as the Sioux Falls Fighting Wiener Dogs on Saturday, February 10, against the Sioux City Musketeers for their 17th annual Wiener Dog Night. The one-night rebrand comes with special edition jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit Dakota Dachshund Rescue.
The jerseys, made by Title Wave, are royal blue with a special logo on the front depicting a snarling dachshund in a blue jersey brandishing a hockey stick. The logo of sponsors Sioux Nation Pet Clinic sits on the right chest.
The collar of the jersey is blue with gold trim, a gold insert at the front and white laces. Gold and white stripes run around the waist and sleeves. The dachshund’s head appears on each shoulder.
Numbers on the back and sleeves are white with gold outlines and are set in the same font that the Nashville Predators used from 1998 to 2011. Names on the back are set in a white block font.
The jerseys are matched with the Stampede’s usual blue pants, gloves and helmets that feature gold accents. The socks are blue with the same gold and white striping found on the jersey.
Aside from the special edition jerseys, the evening will feature wiener dog races in between periods (48 dachshunds in total are registered to race), a dachshund mascot helping with the ceremonial puck drop, and a Chuck-A-Puck fundraiser benefitting Dakota Dachshund Rescue.
There will also be Wiener Dogs merchandise available both at the Premier Center in Sioux Falls and through the team’s online store.
The auction for game-worn Wiener Dogs jerseys closes at 9 p.m. CT on Tuesday, February 13.
