The Oregon baseball program will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its lone trip to the College World Series by wearing 1954 throwback uniforms during Sunday’s game against Lafayette.

The cream-colored uniforms are nearly identical to what the Ducks – known then as the Webfoots – wore that season, with a green “Oregon” wordmark across the chest, as well as green and yellow placket piping.

The piping pattern can also be seen on the sleeve cuffs and down the sides of the pants. The look is complete with a green hat that prominently displays a yellow Block “O” on the front, as well as green stirrups.

“We’re honoring that team with these jerseys and tried to make a replica the best we possibly could, and I think the people at Nike did a fantastic job of reflecting that,” Oregon head coach Mark Wasikowski said.

“I’m excited about what it’s going to look like for our student-athletes, and that we’re going to be able to honor the 1954 team in this way.”

The 1954 team was led by Don Kirsch, the winningest coach in program history, and two-sport star George Shaw, an All-American outfielder and quarterback who was the No. 1 overall pick of the Baltimore Colts in the 1955 NFL Draft.

The Webfoots captured the Pacific Coast Conference championship before knocking off Seattle and Fresno State to punch their ticket to Omaha, though they were quickly eliminated with losses to Arizona and UMass.
