Bayern Munich Launches First-Ever Bespoke Kit for Women’s Team

Even though the team has been around for more than 50 years, German giant Bayern Munich’s women’s squad is finally getting their own bespoke kit.

The kit was launched on Monday, March 4, just ahead of International Women’s Day. It marks the first time since Bayern started up its women’s team in 1970 that they’ll wear a different kit design than the men’s team.

The base of the jersey is black, and pinstripes on the front and back that are somewhere between light orange and pink. That same hue is used for the crew neck collar, Adidas shoulder stripes, club crest, sponsor logos and side/hem taping.

The jerseys were designed in a collaboration between the club, players, manufacturer Adidas and German entrepreneur, fashion icon and model Lena Gercke.

It’s a special jersey that has an impact beyond the pitch: a statement by women for women, a milestone to symbolise the self-determination and emancipation of women’s football, not only because it fulfils a long-cherished dream, but also because Bayern’s own players were involved in its creation.

“The first jersey designed especially for us is characterised by very central and emotional significance. It’s another landmark day in the history of FC Bayern Women,” said Bianca Rech, head of FC Bayern Women. “A big thank you to everyone involved in developing this absolutely unique piece.”

“We’re delighted to be playing in a jersey designed especially for us for the first time in the history of FC Bayern,” added midfielder Linda Dallmann. “This shows the growing importance of women’s football. It would be great to see as many of our fans as possible wearing this jersey in the stadium soon.”

The shorts and socks that go with the jersey are also black with light orange accents.

The jersey will be available for sale in FC Bayern stores and in their online shop starting on International Women’s Day (Friday, March 8). Adidas and Bayern are also marking the occasion with a Women’s Day soccer tournament at the Adidas Sports Base Berlin.

FC Bayern Women will debut the new kit on the pitch on Saturday, March 16, when they play RB Leipzig in the Frauen-Bundesliga. Bayern currently in first place in the league, just one point of VfL Wolfsburg.
