After unveiling a new logo last season, the Big Ten has subtly announced a return to its iconic pinwheel logo for the 2024 men’s and women’s conference basketball tournaments.
The pinwheel logo features the color schemes of all 14 Big Ten institutions, but it was replaced with a stylized basketball with eight white and eight light blue points after the conference added UCLA and USC, effective the 2024-25 season.
It marked the first update to the tournament logo since the 2014-15 season, when Maryland and Rutgers joined the conference, but it’s already out of date with Oregon and Washington also leaving the Pac-12 for the Big Ten this summer.
The conference will either have to expand the pinwheel or create a new logo to account for 18 teams next season. That’s a problem for another day, however, as the women’s tournament tipped off at Target Center in Minneapolis on Wednesday.
The men’s tournament will also take place at Target Center on March 13-17, marking the first time that both tournaments will be played in the same location after previously being played in difference markets for the last 31 years.
