Philadelphia Eagles Finally Update Wordmark On Jerseys

Two years after unveiling a new wordmark, the Philadelphia Eagles have finally added it to their jerseys for the upcoming season, as shown on retail versions being sold for their latest free agent signings.

This is actually the third different wordmark that has appeared just below the collar since the Eagles introduced their current uniform design as part of a switch from Kelly green to midnight green in 1996.

That includes a slanted wordmark from 1996-2002, as well as an arched wordmark from 2003 through last season. The new wordmark, meanwhile, only appeared in the end zones at Lincoln Financial Field for the last two years.

The only other NFL team that has updated the wordmark on its jerseys without changing any additional details is the New England Patriots, who unveiled a new wordmark in 2013 but also waited two years before it appeared on their uniforms.

The two-year turnaround is standard for all uniform-related changes in the NFL, whether it’s a minor detail or a complete overhaul, though it makes you wonder why the Eagles didn’t simply hold off on unveiling the wordmark until now.

That said, it also remains to be seen if Philadelphia will add the new wordmark to its front helmet bumper, which prominently displayed the old wordmark from 2014-22 but was left blank this past season.
