Tennessee Titans Bringing Back Light Blue Alternate Jerseys After One-Year Hiatus

After scrapping them last season to make way for their Houston Oilers throwback uniforms, the Tennessee Titans will bring back their light blue alternate jerseys for at least one game in 2024.

“The Titans will be wearing the Oilers throwback uniforms again in 2024, I can tell you that for starters,” team reporter Jim Wyatt said in a recent mailbag. “Which games, and for how many games, is yet to be determined.

“A year ago, the Titans wore them twice – vs the (Houston) Texans and (Atlanta) Falcons – after considering wearing them three times.

“Also, the team plans to bring back the light blue Titans jerseys for at least one game in 2024, as well, as long as there are no manufacturing delays or a last-minute change of heart.

“I know a lot of fans enjoyed seeing those, so the plan is to bring them back. So, the planned jerseys for 2024 will be the Titans navy blue, Titans white, Oilers light blue throwbacks and the Titans Columbia blue.”

As Wyatt mentioned, the Titans honored their roots as the Oilers by wearing the throwback uniforms twice in 2023, including a 28-23 win over the Falcons on Oct. 29 and a 19-16 overtime loss to the Texans on Dec. 17.

They attempted to wear them once more during their 28-27 win at the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football on Dec. 11, but the NFL ultimately denied that request.

Teams can only wear alternate or throwback uniforms a total of three times each season, so the light blue jerseys did not make an appearance as Tennessee held out hope the league would change its mind.

We’ve previously mentioned our sources have indicated the Titans would eventually like to add a white road version of their Oilers throwback uniforms to the rotation, as well, a la the Dolphins with their 1966 set.

But in order for that to happen, they’d have to drop the light blue jerseys once again, as league rules currently only permit four different jerseys per team each season.

“As for Oilers white away uniforms, nothing is in the works (for this season),” Wyatt said. “Maybe down the road…”
