As the James River flows 444 miles from its headwaters in the Appalachian Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay, it rolls through Virginia’s state capital, Richmond, where it is central to the city’s history, economy, and contemporary culture and recreation. The Double-A Richmond Flying Squirrels will pay tribute to the Mighty James with an alternate “River City” identity, just unveiled this week.
The brand features a jersey in blue stripes meant to represent water in the river, with a logo that evokes a compass.
A sleeve patch features the historic James River Railway Bridge, also called the CSX A-Line Bridge, which was built in 1919 for the Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Potomac Railroad.
James River Appreciation Night will take place April 27, with jerseys auctioned off to benefit the James River Association.
