Most minor league baseball teams would be content to commemorate hot dog night at the ballpark with an appearance by world champion competitive eater Joey Chestnut, but the High-A Bowling Green Hot Rods are not most teams. In addition to hosting the 16-time Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest winner, the Hot Rods will change their name—or at least half of it, anyway—and wear alternate uniforms to mark their July 13 Hot Dogs promotion.
The logo, created by Brandon Lamarche of 3-2 Designs, features the team’s bat dog Turbo, rather than the food item, with a tag that looks like a hot dog. The two-tone cap is yellow and red, representing mustard and—controversially—ketchup.
Game-worn Bowling Green Hot Dogs jerseys (which we have not seen yet) will be auctioned off to benefit the Center for Courageous Kids.
