While we caught our first glimpse of the jerseys thanks to a leak earlier in the day, the Detroit Lions officially unveiled their new uniforms on Thursday evening.

The Honolulu blue home jerseys feature white numbers with silver trim, as well as sleeve stripes that are reminiscent of the racing stripes on a Ford Mustang and the vertical bars in the Lions’ 1961-69 logo, which was displayed on their Honolulu blue alternate helmet last season.

That design is carried over to the white road and black alternate jerseys, though they prominently display “Detroit” and “Lions” wordmarks on the chest, respectively. The stripes are silver and white on the Honolulu blue jersey but blue and silver on the white and black jerseys.

The numbers on all three jerseys are perforated, as well, which makes Detroit the third team in the NFL with this feature, joining the Arizona Cardinals and Washington Commanders. They’ll soon be joined by the Houston Texans, who are set to unveil their new uniforms on April 23.

All three jerseys are complete with a tagline inside the back collar, including “One Pride” on the Honolulu blue home jersey, “313” – Detroit’s area code – on the white road jersey and “Motor City” on the black alternate jersey. The inside of the collar is also contrasting on the white and black jerseys.

The Lions’ silver helmets, meanwhile, now include a Honolulu blue facemask, just like they did from 1984-2002, as well as the same striping pattern as the sleeves, albeit in Honolulu blue and white.

The Honolulu blue alternate helmets remain in the rotation, as well, but they now include Bubbles – the Lions’ primary logo’s nickname – rendered in black, as well as black and white stripes down the center.

The uniforms are complete with silver, Honolulu blue, white and black pants options, allowing the Lions to mix and match to create different combinations. However, only the silver pants have stripes that match the pattern on their silver helmets.

Of note, this marks the first black jersey for Detroit since the 2005-07 seasons. They also unveiled an all-black Color Rush set in 2016, but it was never worn because they didn’t play on Thursday Night Football that year – an initial requirement of the league-wide promotion.

Detroit subsequently unveiled new uniforms in 2017, including an anthracite Color Rush set, which is why the all-black Color Rush set never saw the field as the NFL eventually allowed teams to wear the alternate uniforms at any point in the season.

That was the last time the Lions updated their uniform wardrobe, though they added the Honolulu blue alternate helmet to the rotation last season – and paired it with the anthracite Color Rush set – after the league did away with the one-helmet rule in 2022.

In addition to the uniforms revealed on Thursday night, the Lions will continue to wear their throwback uniforms that pay homage to the teams of the 1950s for one game each season. They’ll simply remove the decals from their gray helmets to complete the look.
