Orange County SC of the USL Championship will be looking to capture some of the magic of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in a special kit made just for this year’s tournament.
The Irvine, California-based club unveiled its “Magic of the Cup Kit” on its website and social media channels on Monday, May 6. It will make its on-pitch debut on Tuesday, May 7, when OCSC hosts Loudoun United FC in the Round of 32 of the 2024 U.S. Open Cup, the 109th edition of the tournament.
The kit is inspired by many of those worn in the 1910s when the U.S. Open Cup was first held. Black and orange vertical stripes adorn the front and back of the jersey, and the orange sleeves have black stripes down the shoulders with orange Hummel chevrons inside. The sleeve cuffs and V-neck collar are solid black.
A red badge in the center of the chest contains a white silhouette of the U.S. Open Cup trophy and the year 1914, the first year that the tournament was held. Names and numbers are printed in white on the back, under an “OCSC” monogram on the back collar. “The Magic of the Cup” is inscribed in a script font on the inside of the collar.
“There is something so magical about the cup and it’s a competition Orange County Soccer Club take seriously. Thriving cup competitions are a sign of a mature soccer nation and this year, after some of the negative press around the cup and who was participating, we wanted to make a statement about the importance of the Open Cup and cup soccer to our club and our league. Which is why we created a special kit, featuring the Open Cup trophy, which we will wear in the competition this year. The design is a throwback to some of the kit designs worn over 100 years ago when this competition first started. We hope to get to wear this special kit many times this year.”

Kickoff between OCSC and Loudoun United is at 7 pm PT / 10 pm ET at Championship Stadium in Irvine, California.
