Cannon Takes the Spotlight on Arsenal’s 2024-25 Home Kit

The cannon from Arsenal’s crest is taking the spotlight on the Premier League club’s 2024-25 home kits, made by Adidas.

Arsenal unveiled the new kits on their website and social media channels on Thursday, May 16. The most prominent feature is the cannon, isolated from Arsenal’s crest, which appears on its own on the left chest. This is the first time this version of the cannon has been used on an Arsenal home kit and the first time Arsenal has worn just a cannon as the badge on their home kit since the 1989-90 season.

The rest of the kit follows Arsenal’s tradition of a red home kit with white sleeves. The 2024-25 home kit has raglan white sleeves with navy blue Adidas shoulder stripes. The collar is white with a navy blue stripe through the center.

Navy blue swoops run up the sides of the jersey and match up with swoops on the shorts. The first-choice shorts are white, but Arsenal’s online shop also offers alternate red shorts. The only socks listed, however, are red with a white “AFC” monogram and Adidas logo on the front.

Arsenal began isolating the cannon from its current crest and using it as a badge with their 2021-22 away kit, and continued with their 2022-23 away kit and their 2023-24 third kit. Until 1990, though, the club regularly used just a cannon on all their kits, though it faced the opposite direction and was usually accompanied by three cannonballs that had the letters “AFC” in them.

A new goalkeeper jersey was also released on Thursday, which follows the new Adidas template for keeper jerseys that has already been deployed in Major League Soccer. It’s mainly yellow, with light green, orange and peach patterns all over. The cannon appears on the left chest in orange, while sponsor logos on the chest and sleeve are black.

In recent years, when Arsenal has unveiled their next season’s home kit before the end of the current season, the men’s team has worn the new kit in their final match of that season. But with a chance to win the Premier League title heading into the final day of the 2023-24 season, the club have elected to wear the same home kit they’ve worn all season when they host Everton on Sunday.

Section M.21 of the Premier League handbook allows clubs to wear their next season’s kits in their last home or away match of the current season, as long as the club provides the league and their opponents at least 14 days’ notice and the kit is properly registered with the league for the next season.

Arsenal’s women’s team may break them out, however, when they host Brighton & Hove Albion in their FA Women’s Super League season finale on Saturday.
