IronPigs pay tribute to Lehigh Valley with Shoofly Pies alternate

The Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs will honor the Pennsylvania Dutch heritage of eastern Pennsylvania when they play as the Shoofly Pies this summer. While the name in the alternate identity suggests another minor league baseball food-based brand, the logo instead focuses on the fly that is being shooed away.

Shoofly Pie, a staple of the local Pennsylvania Dutch community for over a century, is a crumb pie made with a sugar and molasses filling. The pie’s sticky sweet center is a draw for flies, requiring constant vigilance to shoo them away.

The Shoofly Pies logo features an anthropomorphic fly hovering while holding a piece of a pie—the same piece of pie that is missing from the near-whole pie in the wordmark. The jersey is a light blue with piping of light and dark brown, representing the colors of Shoofly Pie.

This alternate brand is the IronPigs’ third in the team’s tributes to Pennsylvania Dutch culture, joining the Fastnachts and Scrapple. The Shoofly Pies will take the field July 13, 2024.
