The Anaheim Ducks today posted a teaser graphic that teases a potential new Mighty Ducks of Anaheim themed uniform.
Posted to their various social media channels, the teaser shows a closeup of the eye of the mask from the club’s original Mighty Ducks logo but with some subtle modernizations.
Unfortunately, the rest of the logo is covered up by an orange sweater, so the remainder of this graphic shall remain a mystery for the time being.
Here’s a side-by-side I cooked up showing the same part of the original logo that’s being revealed in this teaser to give you an idea of what’s different in just this fairly small portion of the overall logo:
As you can see, the eye is now orange with a thicker, sharper black outline and some bronze shadowing above instead of silver. The holes that were in the front of the mask in the original logo are also absent from the new one.
The Ducks dropped the Mighty from their name, the goalie mask logo, and the purple (not eggplant) and jade colour scheme following the 2005-06 season. All of those elements had been present since the team’s inaugural season in 1993-94. The Ducks brought back the original logo, re-coloured in their new black and orange colour scheme, as an alternate jersey in 2015/16. It also appeared as part of the Reverse Retro series in 2022-23.
What we may be seeing here is the club re-adopting its classic look, with an updated design and new colours, starting next season. The NHL (like the NFL) traditionally reveals its new logos and uniforms for the upcoming season at or before its annual Draft, which this year will be held on June 28th. So, we could be in for an exciting few days next week!
