After announcing a deal with Nike in April, the Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol (Uruguayan Football Association) has rolled out the kits their men’s national team will wear at this summer’s Copa América in the United States.
The kits were unveiled on the AUF’s website and social media channels on Sunday, June 16. They’ll be worn for the first time in Uruguay’s first group game of the Cope América against Panama on Sunday, June 23, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
The home kits maintain Uruguay’s traditional light blue base, complimenting with white sleeve cuffs, a half-black, half white collar and black-and-white side panels.
The away kit, meanwhile, is predominantly white with light blue accents on the collar and sleeve cuffs. The side panels on the away kit are white to blend in with the rest of the shirt.
Both shirts use a black modified block font for the numbers on the front and back, as well as for the names on the back. Extra beveling details are added to the large numbers on the back, along with the AUF crest near the bottom of each digit.
Soon after the kit launch, the AUF had to release a statement on social media clarifying that the new shirts were not yet available for sale to the public, and any shirts that fans may see are counterfeits. “Regarding these imitations, the AUF will take the necessary legal actions in defense of its commercial assets,” the statement reads (translated to English by Google).
Uruguay are playing in Group B of the Copa América alongside Panama, Bolivia and the host United States. They’ll play Bolivia on Thursday, June 27, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and the U.S. on Monday, July 1, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
