The Washington Wizards unveiled their 2024-25 Statement Edition uniforms early Friday morning, replacing the set they’ve worn since the 2019-20 season.

The predominantly blue uniforms maintain the “District of Columbia” wordmark that appeared on the previous design, but swaps the red shoulder yoke for three stars and two horizontal bars that are pulled from the D.C. flag.

This design is also reminiscent of the uniforms the franchise wore during its time as the Capital/Washington Bullets, with two horizontal bars on the front of the jerseys from 1973-87 and three stars on each leg from 1973-85.

When the Wizards updated to a red, white and blue color scheme in 2011-12, they also modeled their uniforms after this design, adding the contrasting shoulder yoke and horizontal bar that remains on their Association and Icon Edition uniforms.

The “District of Columbia” wordmark, meanwhile, first appeared on Washington’s 2017-18 City Edition set, followed by the 2018-19 City design. It then made its way onto the Statement set in 2019-20, replacing a “Washington” wordmark.

The rest of the uniform remained the same, aside from the stars and bars from the D.C. flag, which were added to the waistband. It also appeared in that location on the Wizards’ City Edition uniforms from 2017-21 and their 2018-19 Earned Edition design.

As for the new Statement set, it is complete with asymmetrical shorts that feature the three stars and two red bars around the right leg, the Wizards’ Monument-in-ball logo on the left leg and a “Washington” wordmark on the waistband.

This marks the first of two new uniforms for the Wizards this season, as they will unveil a new City Edition set alongside the rest of the league in late October. Their 2023-24 City design notably paid homage to the stone markers that surround the nation’s capital.
