Major League Soccer is throwing it back to the 1990s with their new All-Star kits for 2024.
The kits were unveiled on Monday, July 1, and will be worn when the MLS All-Stars take on their counterparts from Liga MX at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday, July 24.
The MLS kit design “celebrates the best MLS has to offer and honors the iconic style and flash of ‘90s soccer on the 30th anniversary of the last time the United States hosted the World Cup.” It features a black base with a pattern of wavy, intersecting stripes in purple, pink and neon yellow on the front.
The crew neck collar is black, while the sleeve cuffs are purple with pink trim. The side panels are purple, and the Adidas shoulder stripes are pink. The back collar features a white blackletter C with a star, which fits with other Columbus-centric All-Star merchandise available on MLSStore.com.
Names and numbers will be printed on the back in neon yellow.
MLS also announced its 30-player roster for the All-Star Game on Monday, headlined by the Inter Miami quartet of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. Twelve players were voted onto the team through a combined vote of fans, media and players, while 16 were selected by team coach Wilfried Nancy, who also coaches the host team, the Columbus Crew. Two others were named to the team by MLS Commissioner Don Garber. See the full roster here.
The 2024 MLS All-Star Game kicks off at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, July 24. The day before, Lower.com Field will also host the All-Star Skills Challenge, while the MLS NEXT All-Star Game will take place at Historic Crew Stadium.
