The Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday morning unveiled their 1990s throwback uniforms, which they’ll debut against the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 6.
The uniforms feature a black helmet with Jacksonville’s original logo on the sides, teal jerseys with white numbers outlined in gold and black and a full-bodied jaguar on the sleeves.
The look is complete with gold and black sleeve cuffs, white pants with a teal, gold and black striping pattern and black socks, matching what the team wore from 1998-2007.
“Everywhere I go and from every comment I read, it’s apparent our fans are longing to see Jaguars’ players in throwback uniforms,” team president Mark Lamping said in a statement.
“That persistence paid off and our uniforms reminiscent of the team’s early years are back by popular demand – just in time for the 30th season and, in particular, the Pride of the Jaguars induction of our inaugural head coach, Tom Coughlin.”
The uniforms are often mistaken as Jacksonville’s original design, but the 1995-96 set actually featured a block number font while the 1997 uniforms had black side panels on the jerseys.
The throwback number font is also prominently displayed in the Jaguars’ 30th season logo, which was revealed in April and will presumably be worn as a patch on their jerseys this year.
This marks the first throwback in Jacksonville history, as the Jaguars only deviated from their standard home, road and alternate designs for the NFL’s Color Rush promotion, wearing all-gold in 2015-16.
It’s also one of two uniform-related reveals for the franchise this season, as sources have indicated they’ll unveil a new white alternate helmet in the coming weeks.
