Barcelona, Arsenal, Bayern Munich Headline Busy Week in European Kit Launches

As preseason friendlies and overseas tours get underway, it’s been a busy week for kit unveilings around Europe’s top domestic soccer leagues. Here’s a rundown of the 2024-25 shirts launched over the past few days:

🇪🇸 FC BARCELONA – Home

Spanish La Liga giants FC Barcelona go way back for the inspiration for their 2024-25 home kits, made by Nike. The half-blue, half-maroon kit with the club crest centered on the chest draws on Barça’s first-ever kit from 1899 as the club marks its 125th anniversary. It’s the first time Barça has used a half-and-half shirt design since 2008. Front-of-shirt sponsor Spotify’s logo appears without the company name on player-issued shirts, but the name does appear on retail versions.

ARSENAL – Away

English Premier League club Arsenal have teamed up with British African heritage brand Labrum London to celebrate their connections with Africa on their 2024-25 home kit, manufactured by Adidas. The kit features pan-African colors with a black base and green and red trim on the shoulders and collar. Tapered inserts at the shoulders and sides feature a white zigzag graphic designed by Labrum London founder Foday Dumbuya.

🇩🇪 BAYERN MUNICH – Away

German Bundesliga powerhouses Bayern Munich pay homage to another Bavarian giant with their 2024-25 away kit, made by Adidas. The turquoise pattern on the black base is meant to resemble the patina of Bavaria statue in Munich. “Like FC Bayern, the statue is a Bavarian giant with global symbolic power,” the club says. The club crest, Adidas stripes and sponsor logos are all bronze, a nod to the statue’s original material from when it was dedicated in 1850.

🇩🇪 BAYER LEVERKUSEN – Away

While they were being developed before Bayer Leverkusen went undefeated in the 2023-24 Bundesliga season, the club’s new gold-accented away kit for 2024-25, made by Castore, is a fitting tribute to their accomplishment. The white base is covered with light grey zigzagging brush strokes, and the Bayer crest and Castore logo on the chest are embroidered in gold. Black panels appear under the arms.

🇩🇪 SC FREIBURG – Home, Away and Third

Fellow Bundesliga side SC Freiburg hopes looking good will translate into good results with their home, away and third kits for 2024-25, made by Nike. The home kit is red with a pattern of distorted tonal chevrons inspired by the struts of their home ground, the Europa-Park Stadion. The white away kit has light grey vertical stripes of varying widths down the front and red inserts at the collarbones. And the black away kit has an embossed graphic on the lower right depicting the griffin and the “SCF” monogram from the club crest.

🇩🇪 1. FSV MAINZ 05 – Away

After unveiling a checkerboard-themed home kit for 2024-25, Bundesliga side 1. FSV Mainz 05 has toned things down a bit for their away kit, made by Jako. The shirt features a solid navy blue base with coral sponsor logos and Mainz 05 crest. The collar and sleeve cuffs feature a pattern of navy blue and coral triangles and parallelograms.

🇪🇸 VALENCIA CF – Away

Spanish La Liga side Valencia CF reimagines their home city’s flag in black and gold for their 2024-25 away kits, made by Puma. The front of the black shirt has an embossed pattern that “reimagines the flag’s distinctive blue band filigree as a subtle background pattern on a sleek black shirt with elegant gold accents,” the club says. The sponsor logos on the chest and sleeve are one-color gold, as are the club crest and pinstripes on the sleeve cuffs.

🇪🇸 CA OSASUNA – Away

Elsewhere in Spain, La Liga side CA Osasuna has switch kit suppliers from Adidas to Macron for 2024-25, and their latest release under the new partnership is a “sand grey” away kit inspired by Las Bardenas Reales, a UNESCO-recognized biosphere reserve. The tonal graphic print on the front and back of the shirt are “inspired by the landscape of ridges and ravines characteristic of Las Bardenas.” The crew neck collar, sleeve cuffs and side panels are navy blue, as are the sponsor logos and the club crest.

🇪🇸 REAL BETIS – Away

La Liga side Real Betis combines two different eras of club history for its 2024-25 away kit, made by Hummel. The neon yellow and black color scheme is inspired by the away kits Betis wore in 2014-15, which in turn were inspired by the club’s original colors from 1914-15. The 2024-25 kits have a yellow base and black raglan sleeves, along with the club’s original crest in one-color black on the left chest.

🇪🇸 RCD MALLORCA – Third

La Liga side RCD Mallorca takes inspiration from the sea that surrounds their home island for their 2024-25 third kit, made by Nike. The front of the light blue kit features a tonal ripple pattern that evokes the ocean. “Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera are all surrounded by the deep blue and this what our latest kit has paid homage to, but it also makes our shirt one belongs to the Balearic people,” the club says.

SOUTHAMPTON FC – Home and Away

After a season in the EFL Championship, Southampton bounce back into the Premier League in 2024-25 with new home and away kits made by Puma. Both the red-and-white striped home kit and yellow away kit take inspiration from Southampton’s naval history, with tonal dazzle camo patterns on each. The collar and sleeve cuffs are black on the home kit and navy blue on the away kit.

EVERTON – Home

Premier League side Everton’s home kit for 2024-25 — first kit under their new partnership with Castore — bids farewell to Goodison Park, the stadium they’ve called home since 1892 but will leave next season for a new 52,000-seat stadium being built the Bramley-Moore Dock in Liverpool, on the banks of the River Mersey. The tonal pattern on the shirt is “an abstract representation of Everton’s first official crest from 1920, with the letters EFC deconstructed within the print.” And the crew neck collar features blue and white pinstripes that pay homage to The Originals, “a term that recognises Everton’s place within its own city of Liverpool and the wider game of football.”

🇮🇹 AS ROMA – Home

Italian Serie A club AS Roma has tweaked their color palette a bit on their 2024-25 home kit, made by Adidas, to pay tribute to the period of the club’s history when they played in the Campo Testaccio, in the mid-1930s. The shirt uses a slightly darker maroon and a more metallic gold to mark this era. Gold and dark red pinstripes run down the front of the shirt, while gold trim also appears on the collar and the shoulders. The club crest is rendered in maroon and gold.

🇮🇹 PARMA CALCIO 1913 – Home

Parma are back in Serie A for the first time since 2020-21, and they’ll return in style thanks to home kits made by Puma. The 2024-25 kits retain Parma’s traditional home look of a black cross on a white base, with little other embellishment. The crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are black.

🇮🇹 HELLAS VERONA – Away

While their 2024-25 home kit is inspired by what their 1984-85 scudetto-winning squad wore, Serie A side Hellas Verona’s new away kit is inspired by the trophy itself. Made by Joma, the shirt’s white base and blue sleeves feature a tonal marble pattern, inspired by the trophy’s base. And the contrasting flourishes on the blue V-neck collar and yellow sleeve cuffs are inspired by some of the ornamental carvings found on the trophy.

🇮🇹 UDINESE CALCIO – Home

Udinese Calcio celebrates 30 consecutive seasons in Serie A with their 2024-25 home kit, made by Macron. The shirt features Udinese’s classic black and white vertical stripes, with each black stripe flanked by narrower black stripes. A tonal chevron pattern covers the entire shirt, with the chevrons getting narrower at the top. The back of the kit has a solid white panel for names and numbers. The black polo collar and sleeve cuffs have a gold stripe bordered in white running through the middle.

🇮🇹 GENOA CFC – Home

Serie A side Genoa CFC is going with a clean, classic look for their 2024-25 home kits, made by Kappa. The new kit retains Genoa’s traditional half-red, half-blue design, mirroring the shield in their club crest. “The dark red shade is inspired by the reasons of the heart: a tribute to some of the most iconic and representative jerseys of the Grifone,” reads the club’s website (translated to English by Google). The crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are solid blue with red trim.

🇮🇹 CAGLIARI CALCIO – Third

Serie A club Cagliari Calcio pays tribute to some of its home region’s most important natural resources with its 2024-25 third kit, made by Eye Sports. The black base and tonal ripple pattern are inspired by obsidian, “used in Sardinia since the Nuragic age for its hardness, resistance and workability, a detail that makes each shirt unique and deeply linked to the Sardinian tradition.” The gold sleeve cuffs are a nod to “the precious golden Byssus thread, obtained from Pinna Nobilis and historically used for Sardinian artisanal embroidery.” Sponsor logos on the chest and sleeve appear in white.

🇫🇷 OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS – Away

French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais combines elegance and modernity for its 2024-25 away kit, made by Adidas. The black kit features an embossed checkerboard pattern, with the “OL” from the club crest — including the lion inside the O — appearing in some of the checks. The Adidas shoulder stripes and tapered side panels are blue on the left side of the shirt and red on the right side, while a white stripe runs through the middle of the collar.

🇫🇷 AS MONACO – Away

As part of its 100th anniversary celebrations, Ligue 1 side AS Monaco has teamed with manufacturer Kappa to release an away kit for 2024-25 inspired by their home principality’s heritage. The deep green base features a tonal pattern with several motifs, “emblematic elements of the Principality or the club du Rocher.” These include the architecture of Stade Louis-II, the tapestry covering the Salle du Trône and the Grimaldi family coat of arms. The crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are a slightly darker shade of green.

🇫🇷 OGC NICE – Away

Another Ligue 1 side celebrating a milestone is OGC Nice, which marks their 120th anniversary in 2024-25. Their new away kit, made by Le Coq Sportif, is chock full of club history. The off-white base features gold accents on the sleeve cuffs, collar and side panels. Tonally printed on the front of the shirt are the names of every professional player to have worn OGC Nice colors, as well as the dates of French first division and Coupe de France titles the club has won. The printing breaks to form a vertical stripe on the left side of the shirt, under the gold club crest.

🇫🇷 STADE BRESTOIS 29 – Third

Elsewhere in France, Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois 29 has rounded out its complement of 2024-25 kits, made by Adidas, with their new third kit. The front of the kit is silver with a pattern of navy blue circles of different sizes. The rest of the kits is navy blue, with red Adidas shoulder stripes and tapering side panels. The club crest is rendered in navy blue and white, and other sponsor logos are white.

🇫🇷 RC STRASBOURG – Home and Away

French Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg draw on the 1980s for inspiration for their 2024-25 home and away kits, made by Nike. The blue home kit is “inspired by the 86-87 season and [evokes] resilience” with its jacquard vertical stripes and white polo collar. The white away kit with blue horizontal stripes “refers to the 84-85 season and loyalty” of their fans at a time when Strasbourg barely survived relegation.
