The Utah Hockey Club, ready to start its first season after (sort of) moving north from Arizona, gave us our first look at their players wearing the club’s new uniform for the first time this week.
As we had previously seen a digital rendering of the uniform, we already knew the uniforms for the still-unnamed team read “UTAH” diagonally on the front of a black, blue, and white jersey with simple striping patterns on the sleeves and around the waist.
These photos only show the black home set; the white road jersey (which features slightly different striping) can be seen here.
What is new here is seeing the State of Utah logo on the side of the helmets and the unusual Inaugural Season patch placement. The team has opted to wear the logo twice on their jerseys, one on each shoulder—this gives the jersey the appearance of wearing a standard secondary shoulder logo rather than a commemorative single-season patch.
The Utah Hockey Club’s inaugural season logo is shaped like a pennant with three mountain peaks at the top, similar in style to the design on the new Utah state flag. Within this black-peaked pennant is the Utah Hockey Club logo near the bottom and a black banner draped across with 2024 2025 in white. The entire logo is trimmed in powder blue.
Previously, the club had also revealed their centre ice design featuring this same inaugural season logo with little state silhouettes of Utah within the red line.
The Utah Hockey Club logo, name, and uniforms are expected to be used only during the upcoming 2024-25 NHL season. The team has released a list of six names the club is considering using permanently starting with the 2025-26 season; one of those six options is to continue using the Utah Hockey Club name. The other five are Utah Blizzard, Utah Mammoth, Utah Outlaws, Utah Venom, and Utah Yeti.
Utah Hockey Club is the relocated Arizona Coyotes (and former original Winnipeg Jets), which, after finishing its studies at Arizona State University, set up shop in Salt Lake City after the 2023-24 season. Officially, in the eyes of the NHL, the Utah Hockey Club is considered a new franchise, separate from the history and records of the Coyotes/Jets, though, here in reality, the club absorbed the entire Coyotes’ roster, contracts, staff, and future draft positions, so… I don’t know; you tell me.
We’ll get our first look at Utah’s new uniforms in a game when they make their pre-season debut on September 22nd against St. Louis. Their first regular season game will be held on October 8th at home against Chicago.
