With the Southern Hemisphere heading into their warmest seasons of the year, the A-Leagues — Australia’s top-flight men’s and women’s soccer leagues — are getting ready to kick off their seasons.
A-League Men kicks off this weekend with expansion club Auckland FC joining this year as the second New Zealand-based team and 13th team overall. Meanwhile, A-League Women gets started two weeks later with Western United FC hosting Wellington Phoenix FC in the first game.
Here’s a rundown of what the teams are wearing as they take the pitch this season:

Adelaide United’s home kit celebrates their home city’s reputation as Australia’s “City of Churches.” A sublimated tonal pattern on the red shirt is meant to resemble the archway of St. Peter’s Cathedral, an Anglican church in the capital of South Australia. Meanwhile, the club is dubbing their cream and maroon away kit as “The Perfect Blend,” drawing inspiration from the world-renowned wine industry of the region and “blending the richness of red and white wines with the dynamic spirit of our football club.” An embossed pattern of fluid swirls covers the shirt to “represent the elegant movement of wine in a glass.”

Auckland FC is the newest entry in A-League Men, and is owned by Bill Foley, who also has stakes in the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights and AFC Bournemouth of the Premier League. The home kit has blue and black vertical stripes, though the blue stripes are made up of multiple thinner blue stripes. The tonal print on the white away kit is inspired by Auckland’s topography and the dormant volcanoes that shape the city’s landscape.

Brisbane Roar FC pays tribute to its Dutch roots with its 2024-25 home kit, which prominently features orange with blue and maroon trim. The away kit employs a cream and maroon checkerboard pattern, with the lion from the current crest in the maroon squares. The third kit has a tonal pattern of the Roar’s original logo all over the blue shirt, along with orange versions of the logo on the shoulders.

Being the only team that only fields an A-League Women squad, Canberra United have a couple of extra weeks to unveil kits before their season begins. Typically, the club based in the Australian capital wear green kits at home with a white chevron on the chest, so we can likely expect more of the same this season.

The two-time defending A-League Men’s champions will once again sport a gold league logo on the chest of their kits for 2024-25. Along with the kits above, the Mariners also have special kits for the AFC Champions League Elite, which don’t have the sponsor logos on the chest but add a gold badge in the middle of the chest marking their 2023-24 AFC Cup victory.

The away kit is silver with a tonal scale pattern all over and a silhouette of a charging bull kicking up a cloud of dust near the hem on the front.

One of A-League Men’s original clubs, Melbourne Victory celebrate their 20th anniversary with classy kits from Macron. The away kit is navy blue with a tonal camouflage pattern on the front and red piping on the shoulders and sleeves.

Perth Glory’s home kit features tonal vertical stripes on the dark purple base; each stripe is made up of small shapes that vary in density moving up and down the shirt. The away kit also has tonal stripes, but they’re much narrower and put on a pastel purple base. The sleeve cuffs and collar have a pattern of repeating purple and orange triangles.

Sydney FC pay homage to their hometown with embossed line art sketches of the the Sydney Opera House — which is also found in their crest — all over their home kit. Their white away kit “embraces a minimalist design,” with the solid white base accented by light blue striping on the collar and navy blue striping on the sleeve cuffs.

Wellington Phoenix’s yellow home kits feature tonal pinstripes on the front, while the raglan sleeves include a tohu pattern gifted to the club by a nearby Indigenous tribe. The charcoal away kit, meanwhile, features a geometric tonal pattern meant to blend “the boldness of street style with the club’s legacy, and making it easy for fans to rep the Nix in any setting – everyday, everywhere.” Both kits have Te Raukura (a plume of white feathers) on the front, another important symbol to the Indigenous tribes of the area.

Western United and Kappa have aimed to create instant classics with their 2024-25 kits. The home kit features the club’s signature green and black vertical stripes, set off by black raglan sleeves and a black polo collar with green trim. The 2024-25 season is first time Western United has not had a white away kit; instead, they’ve opted for a light mint green with white chalk stripes down the front and a black polo collar and sleeve cuffs with white trim. Both kits feature banding down the sides with repeating Kappa logos.
