Name and Logo Leaked for Toronto Tempo, New WNBA Team in 2026

The name and logo of Toronto’s new WNBA expansion team have leaked.

Earlier today, the yet-to-be-revealed name “Toronto Tempo” was spotted on a team dropdown menu on the WNBA’s official website, which seemed to have confirmed what the club would be called when they take the court for the first time in the summer of 2026.

Many fans reacted negatively to the news, with others convincing themselves the name was simply a placeholder. This was a fair theory to run with… until we here at SportsLogos.Net got the logo.

Courtesy of an anonymous, official WNBA source (thank you!), the two Toronto Tempo logos we received show the letter “T” in white on a light blue basketball charging forward. A series of speed lines appears off to the left of the ball. On the “Global Logo” version, we see the team name “TORONTO TEMPO” below the basketball design, stacked in that same light shade of blue and charging forward just like the rest of the logo.

The other logo we received, the “Primary Icon,” version only features the ball with speed lines and the “T” on its own without the team name below.

With this name, logo, and colours, the Toronto WNBA team will be distancing itself from the branding of their red-and-black NBA cousins, the Toronto Raptors. The only similarity between the two identities is that they both include a basketball. This will continue the more recent trend of WNBA teams breaking away from the looks of the NBA teams they share a city with to build their own brands to stand out more.

Upon seeing the logo for the first time, I immediately knew I’d seen speed lines like that before. I recalled drawing them decades ago from one of the hundreds of sports logos I used to doodle instead of doing my schoolwork. After some quick browsing around SportsLogos.Net, I caught it: the Ontario Hockey League.

Others have compared it to the NBA’s Indiana Pacers (speed lines behind a basketball), the Speedway chain of convenience stores (that same jagged speed line style, like the OHL), and the old Detroit Turbos of the Major Indoor Lacrosse League (now NLL).

The Toronto Tempo are one of three expansion teams joining the WNBA in the next two seasons. Next summer, the Golden State Valkyries will debut with Toronto following in 2026, along with a yet-to-be-named team in Portland, Oregon.

We’re not sure when the name and logo for the Toronto Tempo were to be officially announced. Typically, when you spot the name on the website like this, it suggests it was coming sometime today, but according to those in the know, this wasn’t expected to be announced anytime soon.

Whoops!
