College Football Playoff Quarterfinals Uniform Preview

The inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff moves on to the quarterfinals this week, with the top eight seeds playing at bowl sites on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

The festivities begin with tonight’s matchup between Boise State and Penn State at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl, which kicks off at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

This marks the fourth appearance in the Fiesta Bowl for the Broncos, who chose to wear the same blue helmet, white jersey and orange pants combination they wore in their previous trips to the Valley of the Sun, where they’re 3-0 all time.

The Nittany Lions, meanwhile, will wear their standard home uniforms of white helmets, blue jerseys and white pants after wearing their “Generations of Greatness” throwback uniforms in the first round. They notably moved the “B1G” patch to the left shoulder of their jerseys to account for the bowl patch on the right shoulder.

The quarterfinals continue on Wednesday afternoon with the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl between Arizona State and Texas, which takes place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta (1 p.m. ET on ESPN).

The Sun Devils will wear their standard home uniforms with Sparky on their helmets, just as they have in each of their last three games. The Longhorns, meanwhile, will almost certainly be outfitted in their standard all-white road uniforms.

At the conclusion of that game, Ohio State and Oregon will have a rematch of arguably the best game of the season when they meet in The Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential, which kicks off at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN.

The Buckeyes will wear their standard road uniforms with a rose pattern on the center stripe of their silver helmets, while the Ducks will combine various elements from their previous Rose Bowl appearances by wearing chrome helmets, apple green jerseys and white pants.

The quarterfinals come to an end on New Year’s Day with the Allstate Sugar Bowl at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, with kickoff between Georgia and Notre Dame set for 8:45 p.m. ET on ESPN.

The Bulldogs will be in their standard home uniforms of red helmets and jerseys with gray britches, while the Fighting Irish will be outfitted in gold helmets and white jerseys, though they have not yet announced if they’ll wear gold or white pants.

Additionally, all teams will be wearing a new helmet decal (shown above) that features the College Football Playoff logo and a “CFP” wordmark next to the bowl’s logo, whereas previous years – and the first round of this year’s playoff – simply used a larger playoff logo with a white or black background.Β
