Ohtani, Judge among Six to Wear Gold MLB Patches on their Jerseys in 2025

Major League Baseball’s award-winning players will be celebrated with an extra touch of gold on their uniforms throughout the 2025 season.

A special gold version of the iconic MLB “Batterman” logo is making its way onto the backs of jerseys of six award-winners from 2024. In collaboration with Nike, Fanatics, and MLB, a gold-embellished version of the MLB logo will replace the traditional club-coloured silhouetted batter patch on the back collar of game-issued jerseys of MVPs Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani, Cy Young winners Chris Sale and Tarik Skubal, and Rookies of the Year Luis Gil and Paul Skenes.

Shohei Ohtani will be the first to sport this new gold-emblazoned logo when the Los Angeles Dodgers play an exhibition game today. This is ahead of their upcoming MLB Tokyo Series against the Chicago Cubs, which will officially kick off the 2025 MLB regular season.

Gold embellishments on player uniforms are nothing new; defending World Series champions have worn gold outlines and highlights around team logos, player numbers, and city names during their home opener to celebrate their championship the previous season, off and on since the 2004 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox did so for their ring ceremony in 2005. The Kansas City Royals and Washington Nationals wore gold-trimmed uniforms throughout the season, extending celebrations beyond the typical opening series.

Of course, this program isn’t only about recognizing the game’s best players. Of the hundreds of jerseys each of these players wears throughout a single season, ten will have their gold MLB logo removed and placed onto a Topps trading cardβ€”similar to the MLB Debut patch program we saw introduced in 2023. Also, Fanatics will include the gold MLB patch on the backs of these players’ jerseys at retail in all jersey styles: home, road, alternate, and City Connect.
