Chicago Bulls’ Championship Banners Damaged During Disturbed Concert

The Chicago Bulls will play the remainder of the season without their six championship banners overhead after they sustained “minor damage” from pyrotechnics during a Disturbed concert at United Center on March 8.

The banners, which prominently feature the Larry O’Brien Trophy and celebrate the Bulls’ three-peat championships from 1991-93 and 1996-98, could be seen on social media being blown around by flames during the band’s set.

They were quickly removed from the rafters at United Center ahead of Chicago’s 121-103 win over the Indiana Pacers on March 10 after arena staff members noticed the bottom halves of the banners were warped.

“United Center is currently working with the Bulls to explore options to repair these banners,” a United Center spokesperson said in a statement. “While the banners will not be in place for the remainder of the season, we do anticipate them being back in place next season.”

Nearby banners that commemorate the Bulls’ six conference championships, nine division titles and four retired numbers were not affected by the concert, which also featured performances by Three Days Grace and Sevendust.
