MLB’s 2025 Jackie Robinson Day Caps Revealed

Major League Baseball has released the caps all of its on-field personnel (players, coaches, umpires) will wear as they celebrate Jackie Robinson‘s life and legacy during the annual Jackie Robinson Day on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

This year’s cap patch features Robinson’s #42 in royal blue placed within a white and gold baseball diamond. A banner across the bottom of the design reads BREAKING BARRIERS. A new element under the cap’s visor is Jackie’s signature in silver.

Additionally, every Major League player, coach, and manager will wear Robinson’s retired #42 on their jerseys during games played on April 15. Regardless of their team’s usual colours or uniform style, all thirty clubs will sport a royal blue, block-style #42 on the backs of their jerseys, replicating the design Robinson wore during his historic debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.

Jackie Robinson shattered racial barriers in Major League Baseball as the first African American player of the modern era when he suited up for the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947. Over his ten-season MLB career, Robinson accomplished numerous feats, including winning the inaugural Rookie of the Year Award in 1947, earning six consecutive All-Star selections from 1949 to 1954, and becoming the first African American player to win the National League Most Valuable Player Award in 1949. Robinson played in six World Series, notably contributing to Brooklyn’s first-ever championship in 1955, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.

The colours of the Jackie Robinson patch are the same regardless of each team’s usual colour scheme, as you can see in the graphic showing all 30 team caps below.

In 1997, on the 50th anniversary of his debut, MLB retired Robinson’s number 42 across all Major League teams, the first league-wide number retirement in professional sports history. The first official “Jackie Robinson Day” was celebrated on April 15, 2004, and by 2009, every player across MLB began annually wearing #42 for the day.

In 2022, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Robinson’s groundbreaking debut, MLB introduced a new commemorative logo featuring Robinson in his batting stance set against a blue and bronze rectangle. Robinson’s iconic #42 is shown in red on the front of his Brooklyn Dodgers home white uniform.

“When this first comes across your desk, it’s like, ‘Oh wow, this is going to be a moment in history,'” said Jason Yeadon, Major League Baseball’s Creative Director of Brand Design, in a call with SportsLogos.Net during the logo’s unveiling in 2022. “It’s so important for baseball; you don’t want to go outside the box so much, yet you want it to pay homage to Jackie and the history of this important moment.”

Yeadon collaborated with designers Todd Radom, creator of the 50th-anniversary logo, and Britt Davis, an Atlanta-based sports designer whose senior thesis focused on the Negro Leagues. MLB also consulted directly with the Robinson family throughout the design process.
