Washington Nationals Unveil New 2025 City Connect “District Blueprint” Uniforms

Today, the Washington Nationals unveiled their new Nike City Connect “District Blueprint” uniforms, paying tribute to the landmarks, streets, and neighbourhoods that make up the capital city of the United States. The uniform replaces the grey-and-pink Cherry Blossom-themed “WSH” City Connect uniforms the Nationals had used since the 2022 season.

Front and center on the new “American denim” blue jersey is the return of a “DC” interlocking logo, now rendered in a 3D style—a tribute to the 3D “W” logo worn by the original Washington Senators in 1956 and a callback to the “DC” design worn by the Nationals from 2006 through 2010. The base of the jersey includes a map showing the city’s street grid and traffic circles—a fun little Easter egg places the Nationals “curly W” logo at the location of Nationals Park on the map.

On the sleeve of the jersey is a new patch which features a blue “W” with a silhouette of the Capitol Dome on a tile-patterned background, inspired by the architectural features found throughout the District – such as the Capitol Rotunda, the Library of Congress, and the brutalist architecture of Washington’s Metro stations. This design is placed within a blue circle with THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA arched above and below and two pink cherry blossom flowers on either side. At the end of the sleeve is a pink, blue, and black mosaic stripe, a reference to the “diverse makeup” of Washington, DC. This pattern appears again in the single stripe down the side of the white pants.

The uniform also includes a new cap with the same “W” logo and the silhouette of the Capitol Dome found on the sleeve patch. Like that patch, this “W” is flanked by pink flowers, a tribute to the District’s famous cherry blossoms, a primary element of the Nats’ previous City Connect uniform. On the undervisor of the cap is the same street grid city map seen on the base of the jersey.

A slightly different version of the lid will be worn as the batting helmet. The shell is a darker blue, matching the jersey itself. The “W” logo is now plain white with a 3D effect somewhat similar to the “DC” jersey logo, with no Capitol Dome at the bottom of the letter. The two cherry blossoms, like the cap, are present on either side of the “W.”

“This season marks our 20th Anniversary, and my family and I are so proud of how this team has become woven into the fabric of our city,” Nationals Managing Principal Owner Mark D. Lerner said in the club’s announcement. “These uniforms are a great representation of how baseball has the power to bring us all together, and we are continually honoured to play for the people of Washington, D.C.”

Accompanying the uniform launch, Maryland-based band O.A.R. created an original song, “Our Diamond. Our District,” celebrating the team’s deep connection with the city. O.A.R. will perform the song live at Nationals Park following the game on May 9th. “From our DMV roots, our love for D.C. sports runs deep,” said Richard On of O.A.R. in the release. “We’re honoured to support this launch with a song inspired by the great people of Washington, D.C.”

Fans can get a limited number of the new jerseys as part of the District Blueprint Plan, a ticket package that includes a standing-room ticket to every Nationals home game during the regular season and a customized City Connect jersey voucher; the entire plan costs less than US $7 per game.

The new “DC” logo is a combination of the 3D “W” from the 1950s and the “DC” of the late 2000s

Earlier this off-season, the Washington Nationals unveiled a new red alternate jersey featuring a white curly “W” logo in the upper left corner of the chest. This jersey replaces the one-year-only white pullover introduced prior to the 2024 season. The Nats will also celebrate their 20th anniversary in Washington with a special 20th anniversary logo on their uniform.

Twenty years ago, the Washington Nationals franchise relocated south from Montréal, Quebec, where they played as the Montréal Expos from 1969 to 2004. The move brought Major League Baseball back to the U.S. capital for the first time since the original Washington Senators moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area following the 1971 season. The original Senators/Nationals had represented D.C. in the American League from 1901 to 1960 before moving west to become the Minnesota Twins; a second Senators franchise immediately began play in the city from 1961 until their move in ’71 to become the Texas Rangers.

The Nationals will debut their new District Blueprint City Connect uniforms during their home games against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday, March 29th, and Sunday, March 30th. Following these dates, the team will wear the new uniforms regularly for Friday and Saturday home games throughout the 2025 season.

Washington becomes the second of eight teams scheduled to unveil a new City Connect uniform during the 2025 season. Earlier this week, the Houston Astros revealed their latest City Connect design, an abbreviated “STROS” across the front of a white shooting star-clad jersey. The Arizona Diamondbacks, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Colorado Rockies, Miami Marlins, and San Francisco Giants will all unveil their new looks over the next few months. The City Connect program was first introduced in April 2021 when the Boston Red Sox revealed their then-polarizing but quickly embraced yellow “Boston Marathon” themed uniform. The program was introduced to allow teams to break out of their traditional designs and colours to tell new stories about their home city.
