Last Wave of Canadian Hockey League Jersey Design Contest Winners Hit the Ice

The last wave of Canadian Hockey League Jersey Design Contest winners hit the ice in junior hockey rinks across Canada over the past couple of weeks, with designs ranging from classic to a little bit quirky.

Now in its fourth year, the contest was open to kids under 16 and accepted entries until the end of October. The contest is sponsored by Real Canadian Superstore, and game-worn, kid-designed jerseys will be auctioned off to support President’s Choice Children’s Charity.

A total of 31 teams across the Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League and Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League participated in this season’s CHL Jersey Design Contest, including:

Here are the latest contest-winning designs to hit the ice:

BRAMPTON STEELHEADS (OHL)

It was cause for celebration when the Steelheads broke out their winning design on Friday, March 7, against the North Bay Battalion. The black jersey features a steelhead trout raising a hockey stick over its head as if celebrating a goal, despite the angry look on its face. “BRAMPTON” is spelled out in a blue block font under the fish. The shoulders are blue, and white and blue stripes appear on the forearms.

MOOSE JAW WARRIORS (WHL)

The Warriors were flying high in their contest-winning design on Friday, March 7, against the Regina Pats. The jersey is mainly black, but a red gradient emanates from under the team logo on the chest. Brush stroke stripes run across the chest and the sleeves, while the waist features a stripe made up of red fighter jet silhouettes and a maple leaf.

NIAGARA ICEDOGS (OHL)

The IceDogs paid homage to their region’s biggest tourist attraction with their contest-winning design, which they wore on Sunday, March 9, against the Kingston Frontenacs. The front of the jersey features the IceDogs’ logo over a drawing of a waterfall. The white panel on the front is framed by red sleeves and side panels. The sleeves also have black and white stripes at the elbow.

LONDON KNIGHTS (OHL)

The Knights went medieval with their contest-winning design on Tuesday, March 11, against the Guelph Storm. The yellow and green markings on the grey jersey emulate the tunics worn by knights. A belt-like green stripe around the waist has a gold buckle in the front with an “LK” monogram inside.

PETERBOROUGH PETES (OHL)

The Petes wore of the most traditional looks to come out of the jersey design contest when they took on the Brampton Steelheads on Wednesday, March 12. Their jerseys had a barberpole effect on the body and sleeves, with grey, maroon and black stripes and a white Petes logo on the front.

WINDSOR SPITFIRES (OHL)

At the other end of the spectrum are the jerseys worn the Spitfires wore on Thursday, March 13, against the Soo Greyhounds. In praise of pizza, Windsor wore a cheesy yellow-orange jersey with a pattern of peppers and mushrooms all over. The shoulders, collar and panel around the waist were light brown, like a perfectly cooked crust. No word if that crust was stuffed with mozzarella, though.

SUDBURY WOLVES (OHL)

The Wolves, meanwhile, went a little more abstract for their contest-winning design, which they wore on Friday, March 14, against the Brantford Bulldogs. The navy blue base has black and white chevrons and zigzags all over the front, waist and sleeves. The collar is solid black, and there are white stripes at the waist hem and the sleeve cuffs.

HALIFAX MOOSEHEADS (QMJHL)

The last team to roll out their contest-winning design was the Halifax Mooseheads, who wore their winning jerseys on Saturday, March 22, against the Charlottetown Islanders. The front of the green jersey has three charging moose kicking up clouds of dust, including one whose body lines up with the moose in Halifax’s logo. The jersey has red shoulders, a white collar, and “CAN YOU HEAR THE HERD COMING” written out in a red block font across the front of the sleeves.
