What’s New in MLB Logos and Uniforms for 2025

Welcome to the 2025 Major League Baseball season!

As we do at the start of each new season, today we’ll take you through each team to discuss all the logo and uniform changes you can expect to see in the Big Leagues here in 2025.

The significant league-wide change is the return to proper-sized player names on the back of jerseys. Following a disastrous rollout of the new Nike uniform template last year, the league announced that they’ll be undoing most of the changes—first up, the embiggening of player names that had shrunk considerably. The league is rolling out these changes in stages, so there are still some more rollbacks to come over the next year and a half. We previously broke everything down with the full timeline here.

A new jersey-related program in the Majors this season is the addition of a gold-coloured MLB logo on the back of jerseys for players who won the most prominent individual awards in the previous season. Those awards are the MVP, Rookie of the Year, and Cy Young Awards for the American and National Leagues. A handful (not all) of these game-worn gold patches will be removed from the jersey and inserted into special Topps trading cards.

We’ve got a few special events this season which may lend themselves to special uniform-related surprises (though nothing has been announced). We’ve already seen the Tokyo Series earlier this month, but we still have the Little League Classic on August 17th between Seattle and the Mets, and the new Speedway Classic at Bristol on August 2nd between Atlanta and Cincinnati.

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game will be played in Atlanta on July 15th. During the game, players will return to wearing their usual team uniforms, ending Nike’s wildly unpopular four-year experiment with outfitting All-Stars in league-themed uniforms.

Players will again wear the number 42 on Jackie Robinson Day on April 15th, jerseys will all feature a plain block-style Dodger Blue 42 on the back with no player names just as they did last season. Caps will feature a new #42 patch on the side as well as Jackie’s signature on each player’s undervisor.

Here are all the changes you can expect to see from each team, presented in alphabetical order:

ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

The Arizona Diamondbacks are getting a new City Connect uniform this season, so we can safely assume they have dropped their beige “Serpientes” City Connect uniform, which was introduced during the program’s first wave in 2021. Rumours suggest the new uniform will be a purple and teal version of the previous City Connect uniform.

ATHLETICS

The former Oakland Athletics went through quite a bit during the offseason. First, they bid farewell to their home of nearly 50 years and have shifted east to Sacramento for the next three seasons. With the move comes a new, location-less team name; they’ll just be the Athletics through 2027.

Despite not incorporating their new home into their name, the Athletics aren’t totally ignoring Sacramento as they’ll be wearing a patch that includes the city’s name and the Tower Bridge. Speaking of patches, the A’s will also wear a new jersey sponsor patch for their next home city of Las Vegas (meaning the team will wear patches for both their present and future home simultaneously—certainly a first in pro sports).

The A’s will pay tribute to the memory of the legendary Rickey Henderson, who played 13 seasons with the club, with a RICKEY 24 patch on their sleeves. Finally, the Athletics will no longer wear an elephant on their jersey; it’s no longer listed as an official club logo. Hopefully, something that will return once they move to Las Vegas.

ATLANTA BRAVES

The Atlanta Braves quietly eliminated their all-navy blue road cap from their set for 2025, meaning they’ll return to wearing the blue and red version with their road greys, just as they had done from 1987 through 2008. The all-blue cap was added for road games in 2009, and the Braves wore it as they clinched the 2021 World Series.

(UPDATE: The Braves wore their all-blue caps on the road for Opening Day, so it appears the team has changed their mind on this one)

Also gone is their alternate tomahawk cap, “What tomahawk cap?” you may be asking. Well, the Braves officially had such a cap as part of their uniform set for the last eight years, though they only wore it for two games and not since 2017.

Atlanta is hosting the All-Star Game this July, and the team will celebrate by putting the 2025 MLB All-Star Game logo on the side of its cap for the season.

BALTIMORE ORIOLES

The Baltimore Orioles are giving a big push to the colourful pants revolution we’ve been seeing in baseball of late by introducing new orange (yes, orange!) pants to be worn with their existing matching orange alternate tops in 2025. The Orioles had previously worn an all-orange uniform in the 1970s and for a turn back the clock game in 2010.

The orange pants will debut on April 12 when the Orioles host the Toronto Blue Jays.

BOSTON RED SOX

The team that kicked off this whole City Connect thing, the Boston Red Sox, will get a new one in 2025. Fans of the yellow “Boston Marathon” set should not fret, because it’s now an alternate uniform, replacing their navy blue road alternate top.

The Red Sox are also updating the design of their jersey sponsor patch; it’s still the same company, just a new style patch.

CHICAGO CUBS

The Chicago Cubs, one of the few teams to have not filled all four of their regular uniform slots, changed all that this off-season, adding a new powder blue alternate uniform. The uniform is a tribute to the Chicago Blues and incorporates a guitar pick sleeve patch while referencing Cubs logos of the early 20th Century. The Cubs had previously worn a powder blue road jersey in the 1970s and early 1980s. Many fans immediately connected this new Cubs set to the original Montreal Expos road uniforms. Colours, logo placement, cap style, and even the player number font were all quite similar.

CHICAGO WHITE SOX

The Chicago White Sox are scheduled to introduce a new City Connect later this season, which means they’re getting rid of either their all-black “Southside” set or one of their alternate uniforms. Chicago is also celebrating its 125th anniversary this year and will do so with a special logo, which, as far as I can tell, is not scheduled to be worn on its uniforms in any way. Their promotional schedule for 2025 includes several giveaways related to old team uniforms. We’ll have to keep an eye out to see if any of those translate to on-field throwbacks, but nothing has been announced yet.

CINCINNATI REDS

A new Cincinnati Reds white alternate jersey leaked over the offseason, which, if legit, means one of their two red alternates is getting the axe. The team rarely wears the jersey with their cartoon baseball head logo, so that’s my prediction.

Baseball’s controversial hit king, Pete Rose, died at the end of the 2024 season; the Reds will pay tribute to his life with a memorial patch on their jersey sleeve throughout 2025.

CLEVELAND GUARDIANS

The Cleveland Guardians made the most significant overall change to their uniforms as we head into 2025 by changing all four of their uniforms. For home games, the Guardians will now wear a red cap with their white jerseys, and the wordmark on this jersey will be straight instead of angled up. On the road, they’ll now wear a blue cap with red visor and new trim around the collar and sleeves. The red home alternate jersey has a new “GUARDIANS” wordmark across the chest as the scripted version has been replaced with one that matches the font used for their cap logo. Finally, the road blue alternates dropped the “CLEVELAND” wordmark for a simple red “C” logo in the upper left corner.

COLORADO ROCKIES

The Colorado Rockies are scheduled to get a new City Connect uniform this season, which means their green Colorado state license plate-inspired design is likely being returned to the DMV.

HOUSTON ASTROS

The Houston Astros were the first club to unveil a new City Connect uniform for 2025, doing so late last week. Their new white “STROS” uniform with tequila sunrise-filled shooting stars will make its on-field debut on March 31st. To make room for this, the Astros have eliminated their popular navy blue “SPACE CITY” uniform worn regularly since 2022.

KANSAS CITY ROYALS

Another team is adding coloured pants in 2025, as the Kansas City Royals have announced they will now wear powder blue pants with their powder blue jersey. The Royals have been wearing this top for over a decade, but aside from two games in 2023, they had always paired it with white pants. According to the photos released by the club, Kansas City will wear their batting practice caps featuring their original primary logo with this uniform.

LOS ANGELES ANGELS

The Los Angeles Angels are making a minor change to their uniforms in 2025. They will adjust the shape of the collar of their 1980s-style pullover throwback jerseys to better match how they actually looked during their days as the California Angels.

LOS ANGELES DODGERS

The World Series champions will celebrate their big win last fall by wearing a gold-themed cap and jersey as they kick off the home portion of their 2025 regular season schedule. This continues a tradition in MLB over the past 15 to 20 years.

The Dodgers will also continue to honour the life of former pitcher Fernando Valenzuela, who passed away during the 2024 Postseason, with a patch on their jersey sleeve.

MIAMI MARLINS

The Miami Marlins will be one of the eight clubs to get a new Nike City Connect uniform in 2025. While it’s not confirmed, we can safely assume they’ll drop their red Havana Sugar Kings-inspired set introduced in 2021.

MILWAUKEE BREWERS

The Milwaukee Brewers are paying their respects to the legendary Bob Uecker with a commemorative jersey patch on their sleeve featuring Uecker’s signature and a tartan pattern that typically adorned his suits. Uecker had worked with the Brewers as a broadcaster since their second season in Milwaukee in 1971.

NEW YORK METS

In New York, the Mets have introduced a new pullover alternate blue uniform using the scripted “New York” wordmark the club used on their road jerseys for a single season in the 1980s. This new blue jersey bumps off the old alternate blue jersey, which had “Mets” scripted across the front in orange. The Mets will also reportedly make minor changes to their road grey uniform by removing the piping down the jersey’s chest and adding an orange stripe to the sleeves.

SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

The San Francisco Giants are getting a new City Connect uniform, replacing their white and orange foggy bridge set. The team hasn’t unveiled anything officially, but if the recent leak is accurate, the new uniform will be black with “Giants” across the front in white graffiti-style lettering.

SEATTLE MARINERS

It’s game over for the Seattle Mariners being a team without a jersey advertisement; the M’s recently announced a deal with Nintendo. As part of the deal, the Mariners will wear the classic Nintendo pill logo on their home white jerseys and a patch promoting their new Nintendo Switch 2 console on their road greys and alternate teals. This is the first time an MLB team has worn different advertiser logos for different jerseys at one time.

TAMPA BAY RAYS

The most significant change for the Tampa Bay Rays is to their home stadium. Due to hurricane damage to the roof of the domed Tropicana Field, the Rays are moving across the bay to the outdoor George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, the Spring Training home of the New York Yankees.

The Rays have also swapped around their Throwback and City Connect uniform days; they will now wear their City Connect uniform on Fridays and their Devil Rays throwbacks on Saturdays.

WASHINGTON NATIONALS

The Washington Nationals got rid of two uniforms and added two new ones for the 2025 season.

First, their white pullover alternate jersey from 2024 is gone, lasting just one season. A new red alternate jersey has replaced this, featuring their curly “W” logo in white on the upper left chest.

Second, a new City Connect uniform was released this past weekend—the “District Blueprint” denim blue jersey with a 3D DC logo on the chest and a W/Capitol Dome logo on the caps. This uniform replaces their grey “Cherry Blossom”-themed “WSH” uniform that debuted during the 2022 season.

Finally, the Nationals will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their move south from Montreal with a commemorative anniversary patch on the side of their caps.

NO CHANGES

As far as I can tell, there will be no changes in 2025 for the Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres, St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, and Toronto Blue Jays.
