The National Lacrosse League’s Albany FireWolves are honouring their New England roots with retro jerseys that they’ll wear for their final regular season home game of the season.
The FireWolves unveiled the retro jerseys on their website and social media channels on Wednesday, April 2, and they’ll wear them on Saturday, April 12, when they host the San Diego Seals at MVP Arena in Albany, New York. They’re inspired by what the franchise wore from 2015 to 2020, when they were based in Uncasville, Connecticut, and were known as the New England Black Wolves.
The jerseys feature all the same markings as the Black Wolves’ jerseys had, including tonal thunderbolts on the body, solid bars at the tops of the sleeves and shoulder yokes with a jagged edge and black feathers and dots inside. But the colours have been updated to the FireWolves’ maroon, black and gold palette, and the logo on the front has been updated to reflect the team’s current city and nickname.

Numbers on the sleeves and shorts are white with gold and black outlines. The shorts are maroon with black side panels and an “AFW” logo on the right leg.

Photos accompanying Wednesday’s announcement showed the jerseys paired with white helmets and gloves.
Having only moved to Albany in 2021, several FireWolves players and personnel were with the team while they were playing in New England, including:
- General manager and head coach Glenn Clark
- Assistant coach Darryl Gibson
- Assistant coach Clem D’Orazio
- Goalie Doug Jamieson
- Transition player Colton Watkinson
- Defenseman Nick Chaykowsky
- Defenseman Jackson Nishimura
- Defenseman Mike Byrne
- Defenseman Joe Nardella
Before moving to New England, the franchise was known as the Philadelphia Wings from 1987 to 2014. The Wings were resurrected as an NLL expansion franchise in 2018.
Fans can get their hands on game-worn retro jerseys through an online auction. Bidding begins on Thursday, April 10.
