San Francisco Giants Get in the Groove, Unveil New City Connect Uniform

The San Francisco Giants are turning up the volume with their new City Connect uniform, unveiled today ahead of its on-field debut tonight against the Cincinnati Reds.

The uniform is inspired by San Francisco’s history of counterculture, music, and movement. It leans heavily into the city’s rebellious and artistic roots while mixing in a new colour with references to the team’s history and local culture.

That new colour is purple, an unexpected addition to the Giants’ long-used palette of black and orange. The Giants originally wore the colour from 1913 to 1917 while still based in New York, as a tribute to New York University and their NYU Violets athletic clubs. Back here in 2025, purple is mixed in with orange in a crossfade gradient seen throughout the uniform, as a trim around the chest logo, in the sleeve and pant striping, and on the cap.

The jersey has a black base with subtle vinyl groove-like sound waves. Across the chest, a warped, psychedelic-style “Giants” script draws inspiration from the 1960s Fillmore District and Haight-Ashbury era music posters. This script is trimmed in an orange and purple gradient. The player’s number in orange appears on the front, to the lower left of the wordmark in a similar typeface.

On one sleeve, the Giants will wear a patch that reinterprets the glove from the outfield of Oracle Park. Another reference to the concert posters of the 1960s, the glove includes the team name warped around the year “1958” in white, placed where a baseball would traditionally sit. The Chevrolet logo will appear on the opposite sleeve.

Up top, the black-crowned cap includes a new scripted “SF” logo centred on the front in white with purple and orange tie-dye trim. This tie-dye style is used again on the cap’s visor and button. The undervisor features a muted city grid graphic in purple.

Moving back to the jersey, in the lower right corner is a small square comprising a series of nine smaller “Music Tiles,” each representing a different genre of music that has contributed to San Francisco’s identity. The tiles are minimalist symbols and include:

  • Pulsing waveforms representing Hip-Hop
  • Curved, string-like shapes representing the Blues
  • Jagged bass lines representing Hyphy
  • Lightning bolts for Rock
  • Guitar frets for Country
  • Layered pulses for Electronic
  • Sharp angles and vivid colours for pop music
  • Syncopated rhythm shapes representing Latin
  • Freestyle, off-kilter forms for Jazz

On the opposite side at the jock tag is a “San Francisco” scripted wordmark in white with the orange-purple gradient trim, presented in the same style as the “Giants” logo across the chest but at a much smaller scale.

The white pants feature a single violet-to-orange gradient stripe, similar to the jersey’s sleeve striping. The Giants give us the fifth consecutive City Connect uniform (and 7th of the last 8) to be paired with white pants rather than a dark, non-traditional pant colour. It makes me wonder if the dark pants trend in baseball is starting to peter out.

The socks are black, with the musical genre tiles in purple and orange, a scripted Giants logo, and a black version of their new “SF” cap logo.

The Giants will wear the new City Connect uniforms for every Tuesday home game and during special City Connect concert nights at Oracle Park throughout the 2025 season. The club has also partnered with local music producer Ghazi, founder of Bay Area-based Empire, to help amplify the cultural and musical roots behind the new design.

The San Francisco Giants were part of the inaugural class of Nike MLB City Connect teams in 2021. Their first design featured a white and orange fog-gradient jersey with a large bridge-inspired “G” on the chest. Those jerseys made their final appearance in a 3-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on September 10, 2024.

San Francisco joins the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals in unveiling their second City Connect uniform for the 2025 season. The Arizona Diamondbacks, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Colorado Rockies, and Miami Marlins are still to come.
