Nike, NFL To Debut “Rivalries” Uniform Series With AFC East, NFC West In 2025

Overshadowed by the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the NFL and Nike announced on Friday evening that eight teams will debut new community-inspired alternate uniforms this fall as part of its new “Rivalries” program.

“The NFL is home to some of the biggest football rivalries, and today marks a historical moment for the NFL as we share ‘Rivalries’ with the world,” NFL chief revenue officer Renie Anderson said in a statement.

“Together with Nike, we are harnessing the power of rivalry matchups to bring fan excitement and community pride to the next level. Through specially designed player uniforms and limited-edition fan gear, we will embark on a journey that inspires competitive spirit and reveals the winner in all of us.”

While details are limited at this time, the uniforms – which are “rooted extensively in local community insights” and will be worn during a home game against a division rival – bring to mind MLB’s City Connect and the NBA’s City Edition uniforms.

Members of the AFC East, including the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots and New York Jets, and the NFC West, including the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks, will debut their designs this fall.

That will be followed by members of the AFC South and NFC North in 2026, AFC West and NFC East in 2027 and the AFC North and NFC South in 2028. The uniforms will remain in the team’s rotation for three years after their introduction, which would allow them to be worn against a different divisional opponent each season.

This year’s designs will be revealed prior to the rivalry games, which will be announced as part of the NFL schedule release on May 14. They won’t replace any existing uniforms, though it’s unclear if they’ll count toward the league’s new four-game policy for alternate or throwback threads.

This marks the first league-wide uniform promotion since the NFL’s “Color Rush” program, which debuted in 2015 and saw teams wear matching jersey, pants and sock colors during Thursday Night Football games through the 2017 season.

The Seahawks and Pittsburgh Steelers still wear their full Color Rush design, though they’re no longer designated as such and simply referred to as an alternate uniform, while others like the Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints have added a new helmet to the uniform as the league relaxed its helmet rules in recent seasons.

The Patriots, meanwhile, promoted their Color Rush uniforms to primary home status in 2020 while adding a matching road design and modifying their socks. The Bills and Las Vegas Raiders also still wear the jerseys introduced with their Color Rush sets as an alternate or throwback design, pairing them with different color pants and/or socks than originally intended.
