Tennessee Titans’ New Uniform Update: Warren Moon Shares Latest Details

During an introductory press conference for No. 1 overall draft pick Cameron Ward last week, former Houston Oilers quarterback Warren Moon revealed that the Tennessee Titans will unveil new uniforms in the near future, presumably ahead of their move into a new stadium in 2027.

Moon attended the event after he granted Ward permission to wear the No. 1, which the Titans retired in his honour in 2006, and said he felt comfortable with the decision because the Titans likely won’t wear their Oilers throwback uniforms again ahead of the redesign.

The Titans already announced they won’t wear the throwback uniforms this season after promoting their light blue alternate jersey to primary home status, and with new uniforms on the horizon that Moon said are “similar” to the Oilers’ design, “there might not even be a reason to wear (them) again.”

Fast forward to Friday afternoon and Moon, who was at Churchill Downs in advance of the 151st running of the Kentucky Derby, went into further detail on the looming redesign during an appearance “Up & Adams” with Kay Adams – likely to the dismay of Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk.

“The Tennessee Titans have new uniforms coming,” Moon told Adams. “A whole new set, and I’ve seen glimpses of them, but it’s not the Houston Oilers’ jersey. (They look) pretty good. They fit with the times, but they’re also a little futuristic. They will advance with the times, let’s put it that way.”

The Titans were never going to add their current logo to the Oilers’ “Luv Ya Blue” era design and call it a day, but Moon’s description suggests a modern evolution of those uniforms, perhaps with the Titans’ navy blue accenting the Oilers’ familiar Columbia blue and red colour scheme, creating further separation between Moon and Ward’s looks.

“I looked at it as my Houston Oilers’ No. 1 will never be worn again,” Moon said. “(Ward’s) going to wear the Tennessee Titans’ No. 1, and he has a chance to start a legacy with that number with the Tennessee Titans, which I’m a member of as part of the organization.

“If it was an Oilers (jersey), I would never give it away. And if I had been with one organization my whole career, like Lawrence Taylor, who was with the (New York) Giants his whole career, he said, ‘No,’ right away. But I wore it for other organizations and (Ward’s) not wearing the same number on the same jersey I wore.”
