Big Changes for BIG3 as League Unveils City-Based Team Logos

There are big changes on the horizon for the BIG3 basketball league as it enters its eighth season later this summer.

Instead of decentralized touring squads, the 3-on-3 men’s basketball league announced earlier this year that it would transition to a franchise model in which each of its eight teams has a home city. The team names and locations were announced in late March, and their logos were unveiled on April 16.

“We could not be happier to finally share these designs and get them into the hands of our dedicated fans,” said BIG3 CEO Ice Cube. “These eight all-new teams are the evolution of the BIG3 and a testament to our owners, fans, players, and anyone who has supported us over the past eight years. We hope that each design speaks to our local fans, and they feel that these logos and colors represent their city and themselves. We have an incredible lineup of 3-on-3 basketball talent waiting to put on these jerseys, and I can’t wait to see how they represent their cities out on the court.”

The eight teams for the 2025 season include:

  • LA Riot (Los Angeles, California)
  • Houston Rig Hands (Houston, Texas)
  • Detroit Amps (Detroit, Michigan)
  • Miami 305 (Miami, Florida)
  • Dallas Power (Dallas, Texas)
  • Chicago Triplets (Chicago, Illinois)
  • Boston Ball Hogs (Boston, Massachusetts)
  • DMV Trilogy (Baltimore, Maryland)

Each team will host one week out of the eight-week regular season, with all eight teams playing that weekend. Previously, the league consisted of 12 teams—none of which were tied to specific cities—and they toured 10 different cities between the regular season and postseason.

“These cities have shown up for us year after year and we are honored to represent and reward those fans with a new franchise of their own,” Ice Cube said in a statement in March. “The basketball energy in these cities is unmatched, and we’ve seen first-hand the power of their fanbases. Transitioning to a full city-based model for this season is another marker of the league’s continued exponential growth, and fans can expect an increased talent pool and a more competitive style of game than ever before.”

The league hopes to add four more expansion franchises in 2026.

Along with the new city-based identities, BIG3 has also announced a “substantial” jersey deal with Starter. The brand—which reached peak popularity in the 1980s and 1990s—is now owned by by Iconix and licensed to G-III Apparel Group Ltd.

“This really helps us bring awareness to the uniform division,” said Starter’s president of uniforms, Mike Dugan, on BIG3’s website. “Starter’s back on court, back on field like it was in the ‘80s and ‘90s.”

Uniforms have not yet been unveiled, but some photoshopped mockups on BIG3’s social media channels might give a hint as to what they’ll look like.

As seen above, BIG3 has been busy signing marquee players for the 2025 season. This includes former first-overall draft pick and eight-time NBA All-Star Dwight Howard, who will suit up for the LA Riot, and 2020 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Montrezl Harrell. The league will hold its 2025 draft on May 15 in Las Vegas.

The 2025 BIG3 season gets started on Saturday, June 14, at the Allstate Arena in Chicago. Games will be broadcast on CBS and Paramount+.
