The Rocket City Trash Pandas, Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels in the Southern League, will pay tribute to their home state of Alabama’s barbecue heritage when they take on two separate alternate identities on consecutive days. The Trash Pandas will play first as the Bama Butts and then as the Alabama White Sauce June 13 and 14 respectively.
The Bama Butts brand highlights pork. Smoked low and slow for hours by dedicated individuals, the best bites are always tender and juicy. The identity centers on Pitmaster Pig, who, per the team, “with his prodigious posterior, is rearing to show off his skills with a smoker and cook you up a hearty rump.”
The Alabama White Sauce brand is a tribute to a sauce that was created in 1925 at Big Bob Gibson’s Bar-B-Q in Decatur, Alabama. The identity centers around a character the team calles the Saucy Squirt Bottle Scientist.
“We couldn’t be more excited to launch these two new identities with authentic ties to BBQ here in our state,” Trash Pandas Executive Vice President Lindsey Knupp said in a statement. “We can’t wait to see all the local restaurants here in June to showcase their incredible food.”
The Trash Pandas’ BBQ Weekend will include “Best Pork Butt” and “Best White Sauce,” and fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite local barbecue.
