NWSL’s Boston Legacy FC Unveils Crest to Go Along With New Name

After launching a new name back in March, Boston Legacy FC of the National Women’s Soccer League now has a crest to go along with the new moniker.

The club, which is set to take the pitch in 2026, unveiled the crest during an event on Saturday, June 7, at Boston Common. It was designed by Matthew Wolff — who has also worked on logos and uniforms for Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire and Los Angeles Football Club, as well as Major League Baseball’s Minnesota Twins.

The crest depicts a white swan with its wings open on a black shield with a neon green outline. A green bar at the top of the shield contains the word “BOSTON” in a serif font. The swan was chosen as the focal point of the crest as they’ve been spotted around Boston for 150 years and they are “a relentless protector, renowned for being loyal to the end and aggressively territorial.”

“This crest is another step in building a new sporting legacy in Boston. Swans encompass our core club values of integrity, grit, and style. They are famously loyal, relentless in defending their territory, and iconic residents of our waterways and green spaces. We are excited to see our fans and players wearing this incredible crest when we kick off in 2026 at Gillette Stadium, and continue to build towards the future with our home field of White Stadium in partnership with the City of Boston.”

The eight feathers on the swan’s wing represent the eight original NWSL clubs from 2013, including the Boston Breakers. The spaces between the feathers are meant to evoke the cables of the Zakim Bridge across the Charles River in Boston, which featured in the franchise’s interim crest and “represents Boston’s commitments to unity and justice.”

The crest combines classic elements with sleek lines and a minimalist strength, honoring the past while looking forward to the future. It is in motion and always ready: wings raised, strength in fluidity, equally prepared to attack and defend.

While the Legacy crest doesn’t include the pink shade that appeared in previous announcements, it did retain the neon green shade that had been used. “Green grounds the club in Boston; a city rich in pride, history, and green spaces,” the club said on its website. “Green for our parks, including Franklin Park, the home of White Stadium, but in a bold and bright shade to ensure we always stand out and look forward.”

While White Stadium features in the Legacy’s crest rationale, the stadium unfortunately won’t be ready in time for the 2026 NWSL season. The Legacy will play the 2026 season at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, which they’ll share with the NFL’s New England Patriots and MLS’s New England Revolution.
