The Ottawa Senators gave their season ticket holders a sneak peek at their new red third jersey earlier this week, and fortunately, there were plenty of fans in attendance who shared some video of the reveal.
Fans got their first (official) look at the new uniform courtesy of a teaser video that played on the Canadian Tire Centre scoreboard at the club’s annual “Season Seat Member Spring Summit” on Tuesday night. The only comment from the club about this new look so far is that “the Senators’ third jersey [is] set to be worn throughout the upcoming season.”
The predominantly red jersey matches perfectly with a leak we saw back near the end of 2024, which showed a red base with black shoulders trimmed in gold, black and gold striping on each sleeve and around the waist. The team’s usual primary crest on the chest (with some new, interesting embroidered embellishments!) and the secondary “S” logo on each shoulder.
Let’s take a look at some screencaps of what we saw in the team’s new teaser video from Tuesday night. Keep in mind that these were captured from a video of a video, so we aren’t dealing with 4K images here.

Starting with the crest details, we again see the Ottawa Senators logo featured prominently, as it has been on all their uniforms since 2020. Just like the standard jersey crest, metallic gold threading is used throughout, as well as 3D embroidered details on the gold helmet of the senator. What’s new is a series of 3D embroidered triangular elements on the red decoration to the left of the senator, giving the impression that they are almost radiating out from the senator’s head. It’s a neat addition, one that could either significantly enhance or possibly detract from the overall design — we’ll have to wait until we get some actual, proper photos of this set to truly get a sense of this new feature.
Unlike previous third jerseys from the team, the shoulder patch here is the Senators “S” logo, one on each arm.

A closer look at the black, squared-off shoulder yoke shows gold trim at each end where the shoulder meets the arm. There is no gold trim on the shoulder yoke on either the back or front of the jersey, just the sleeves. Much like the jersey crest, the gold here uses metallic threads to give it that shiny look.
On the black sleeve striping, flanked by more metallic gold stripes, we see a series of debossed black laurel leaves (a good look at that in the bottom right of the graphic above). The lower left image above gives the impression that we could also see some gold laurel leaves. I couldn’t quite place what that particular element was, whether it’s something separate or just some unusual lighting. Please share your thoughts in the comments if you have a better understanding of what’s happening in this area.

For player numbers, we’re moving away from the standard block style that the Senators typically wear. Instead, we’re getting one that’s based on the team’s wordmark logo and presented in black with metallic gold trim. While I’m on the fence about using black numbers on a red jersey, I’m certainly a fan of this new number font — it’s miles ahead of the previous non-block, obnoxiously gigantic numbering the Senators wore from 2008 to 2017.

Some of the finer details of the new Ottawa Senators uniform revealed above — the NHL logo, of course, is under the front collar, placed on the black of the shoulder yoke. Inside the jersey, at the back of the front collar, we find a white “OTTAWA” wordmark with the top of the city’s Peace Tower carved out of the bottom of the “A”. On the back of the jersey, near the hem, a new red and gold maple leaf design has been added to the jersey tab. The jersey tab is a new feature to Fanatics NHL jerseys, quietly rolling out over the past year.
Put it all together, and this is what we get:

Not bad. Nothing earth-shattering. Honestly, I was hoping the club would have rolled out a red version of their home and road set, similar to their first Reverse Retro design, but I also realize I’m pretty boring when it comes to alternate uniform designs.
As a reminder, here is the leaked photo we saw a few months ago:

That’s a Bingo!
No official release date for this uniform has been disclosed; the video ended with a simple “COMING SOON.”
The Ottawa Senators didn’t wear red until their sixth season in 1997-98, when they introduced their first-ever third uniform. After two seasons, the Senators promoted the red jersey to be their full-time road uniform. Ottawa then proceeded to wear a red jersey as their primary dark jersey option right up until COVID-19 stopped the 2019-20 season, twenty years later.
Throughout their history, the Senators have used five different third jerseys. The aforementioned red jersey, worn from 1997 to 1999, featured a large black swoosh across the front with the 3D version of their primary logo on the chest. From 2000-01 to 2006-07, they wore a black jersey with the 3D Centurion and gold striping with laurel leaves. For three seasons, from 2008 to 2011, they wore the unpopular black third jerseys with “SENS” across the front in white, featuring red trim. This was followed by perhaps their most popular third jersey, a throwback to the original Senators jersey designs of the early 1900s, featuring barberpole-esque red and cream horizontal stripes behind a black “O” on the chest. A more modern red and silver version of this jersey was introduced for the 2017 NHL 100 Classic and eventually adopted as the team’s third uniform for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.

Ottawa is one of several NHL teams expected to unveil a new uniform for the 2025-26 season. Among those, we have the Utah Mammoth (formerly the Utah Hockey Club), who have already introduced theirs. The Boston Bruins had their new look leaked earlier this year, and upcoming 100th anniversaries for the Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, and New York Rangers would likely come with commemorative designs.
