Washington Nationals Add AARP Jersey Patch

The Washington Nationals have added an advertisement to their uniform for the first time in franchise history.

Starting Tuesday, the team will wear a jersey patch featuring the logo of AARP, a nonprofit organization formerly known as the American Association of Retired Persons, which is headquartered in Washington, D.C. The patch will debut during the Nationals’ home game against the Detroit Tigers at Nationals Park.

The agreement with AARP marks the Nationals’ first jersey sponsorship deal since Major League Baseball began allowing uniform ads at the start of the 2023 season. Financial terms were not disclosed.

A red patch with white AARP lettering will appear on the Nationals’ white home jerseys. A flipped version featuring a white patch with red lettering will be used on their road gray, red alternate, navy alternate, and denim blue City Connect uniforms.

According to The Washington Post, additional elements of the partnership include placement of the AARP logo along the first and third baselines at Nationals Park, as well as digital and LED scoreboard signage. AARP members will have access to various game-day benefits, such as early entry, reserved parking spaces, and potential seat upgrades. The Nationals also announced plans to host a dedicated AARP Night later this season.

With the Nationals’ announcement, just four Major League clubs — the Chicago White Sox, Colorado Rockies, Minnesota Twins, and Tampa Bay Rays — remain without jersey patch sponsors.
