Seeing Stars: Salt Lake City G-League Squad Unveils New Visual Identity

Basketball fans in Utah are seeing stars with the unveiling of a new visual identity for the state’s NBA G-League team.

The Salt Lake City Stars released a suite of seven new logos on Tuesday, July 15, along with mockups of new uniforms for the 2025-26 season. The Stars are the G-League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, and the new identity brings their branding in line with that of their parent club, especially with the adoption of a Mountain Purple, Sky Blue and Midnight Black colour palette.

The logos were designed by the in-house team at Smith Entertainment Group (SEG), which also owns the Jazz and the NHL’s Utah Mammoth. The package borrows heavily from the Utah Stars, who played in the American Basketball Association from 1970 to 1975.

Reminiscent of the ABA Stars, the new G-League Stars’ primary logo has the word “STARS” in white with a thick black outline wrapping around a basketball, with connecting letters and a blue star in between the R and the S. The basketball is purple with blue lines and a black outline. The team’s global logo includes “SALT LAKE CITY” written out in white above “STARS”.

The secondary logo depicts a blue star streaking around the same basketball as appears in the primary and global logos. Additional logos include:

An “SLC” mark with a blue star inside the C.
A “STARS” wordmark.
A star with “SLC STARS” arched above and “BASKETBALL” arched below.
A “SLC STARS” wordmark with a star in between the words.

The latter two mirror logos in the Jazz’s portfolio. And the “SLC” mark is slanted at a 25-degree angle, which is the same angle as the Jazz’s J-note logo.

The Stars also posted mockups of jerseys for 2025-26 to their social media channels. Their purple jersey has the “STARS” wordmark on the chest with a white number outlined in blue below, along with black collar, black trim around the arm holes, and truncated black side panels. Their white jersey swaps the black accents for purple, and uses the “SLC” mark on the chest with a purple number outlined in blue below.

The Salt Lake City Stars began in 1997 as the Idaho Stampede in the Continental Basketball Association. They moved to the G-League in 2006, where they continued to play in Boise, but their NBA affiliation bounced around between the Jazz, the Seattle Supersonics, the Portland Trail Blazers, the Denver Nuggets, and even the Toronto Raptors. In 2016, the Jazz bought the team, renamed them, and moved them to Salt Lake City. In 2022, the team moved into the Maverik Center, a 12,500-seat arena in West Valley City, Utah.

The G-League has not yet announced the schedule for the 2025-26 season. Typically, G-League seasons run from November through April.
