Altoona Curve pay tribute to classic ballpark with Blair County Crickets identity

In 1870, Cricket Field in Altoona, Pennsylvania, was constructed to host cricket matches played by traveling railroad teams. Over the next nine decades, the stadium was home to a series of baseball teams and exhibition games, with such stars as Josh Gibson, Satchel Paige, and Babe Ruth playing there. The stadium was initially built with a seating capacity of 3,500, then expanded to 25,000 seats in 1922 to host tennis, football, track and field, and of course baseball.

The Altoona Curve, Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, played three games this weekend as the Blair County Crickets, a tribute to the erstwhile ballpark, which was torn down in 1960, as well as the larger history of baseball in Altoona. The brand feature a literal cricket, which served as a sleeve patch, and an old-timey uniform set centered around an interlocking BC logo.

The Blair County Crickets played three games this weekend, going 2-1 against the Akron RubberDucks.
