Manchester United, Real Madrid Go Retro For New Third Kits – Plus More European Launches

Three of the five most prestigious top-flight domestic soccer leagues across Europe kick off their seasons this weekend, which means the tsunami of kit launches shows no signs of letting up. Over the past week, we’ve seen new jerseys — mostly third and away designs — that run the gamut from traditional to experimental.

Here’s a look at the plethora of kits released in the past week or so:

🇪🇸 REAL MADRID – Third

Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid have gone with a bright blue base for their 2025-26 third kits, made by adidas, into which is woven a pattern of circles and diagonal lines that the club says is inspired by the stands at their home stadium, the Bernabéu. The white adidas shoulder stripes have serrated edges, mimicking the stripes found on adidas Originals sneakers. Both the collar and sleeve cuffs are white with bright blue trim.

MANCHESTER UNITED – Third

English Premier League powerhouses Manchester United harken back to the mid-1990s — the days of players like Paul Scholes, Eric Cantona and a young David Beckham — with their 2025-26 third kit, made by adidas. Like the 1990s kit, the new jersey is mostly black with yellow accents like the adidas shoulder stripes and sponsor logos. A “subtle, yet striking” pattern based on the devil in the club crest is woven into tonal vertical stripes on the front of the kit. Blue pinstripes also appear in the collar and sleeve cuffs. The club crest is rendered in monochrome yellow and sits inside a black shield with yellow and blue outlines.

AFC BOURNEMOUTH – Third

Elsewhere in England, AFC Bournemouth brings back pink for the first time in a decade with their third kit for the 2025-26 Premier League season, made by Umbro. The front and back of the kit are a light shade of pink, with a slightly darker shade used on the raglan sleeves. The crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are purple, as are the club crest, sponsor logos and alternate logo on the back collar.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST – Away

Premier League side Nottingham Forest are weaving history through the fabric of their 2025-26 away kit, made by adidas. The off-white colour and embossed pattern of the new kit are both inspired by lace, which is one of Nottingham’s greatest exports; the local lace market is just two miles from Forest’s home stadium. The shoulder stripes, piping and collar trim are tan, while the club crest and sponsor logos are black.

BRENTFORD FC – Third

Premier League side Brentford FC nods to their past while looking to the future with their 2025-26 third kits, made by Joma. The light blue base and claret-and-salmon stripe across the chest of the kit reflect the club’s original colours from 1889, when they were adopted from the Brentford Rowing Club. The club crest is rendered in claret and light blue, and sits atop the stripe in the middle of the chest. Claret and salmon accents also appear on the collar and under the arms.

LEEDS UNITED – Third

Back in the Premier League for 2025-26, Leeds United honour the supporters who got them there with their new third kit, made by adidas. The pattern of blue, white and yellow halftone dots on the black base is meant as “an iconic tribute to the eclectic sight of thousands of Leeds scarves swirling in unison.” The club crest and front-of-shirt sponsor logo appear in full colour, while white accents include the shoulder stripes, piping on the front and sleeve cuffs, and the adidas logo on the chest.

🇩🇪 1. FC UNION BERLIN – Away

Bundesliga side 1. FC Union Berlin honours the journey through the forest that many supporters take to their stadium each matchday with their 2025-26 away kit, made by adidas. The dark green jersey is covered in a pattern of robinia and beech leaves, “classic representatives of Wuhlheide’s deciduous woodland, gathered along the walk to the stadium.” The club crest is embroidered on the chest in gold, and other gold accents include the adidas shoulder stripes and sponsor logos.

🇩🇪 EINTRACHT FRANKFURT – Third

Elsewhere in Germany, Eintracht Frankfurt has the whole world in its hands with its 2025-26 third kit, made by adidas. The base of the kit is grey, with a pattern on the front that appears to be a black pixelated world map with intersecting concentric circles radiating out from behind the club crest on the left chest. Tapering black panels run under the arms, while other accents like the shoulder stripes and seam piping are white.

🇩🇪 TSG 1899 HOFFENHEIM – Away

With their 2025-26 away kit, made by Joma, Bundesliga side TSG 1899 Hoffenheim is aiming for “a design that emphasises the emotional connection between fans, tradition and modern design.” The kit — which debuted in an 8-0 romp over French side FC Metz in a preseason friendly — is predominantly a shade of turquoise that was used for the club crest until 2007, and the front features “an abstract representation of cheering fans from the south stand – a powerful symbol of the close connection between the team and the stands.” A similar pattern is woven into the fabric of the raglan sleeves. Tapering side panels and the front of the crew neck collar are white.

🇩🇪 VfL WOLFSBURG – Third

German Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg sneakily rolled out a new third kit for 2025-26, made by Nike, for a pair of preseason friendlies against Brighton & Hove Albion of the Premier League over the weekend. According to Footy Headlines, the kit — which is black with a tonal zigzag pattern on the front and white side panels and logos — is based on Nike’s Challenge V teamwear template and will not be available to purchase.

🇩🇪 VfB STUTTGART – Third

After unveiling their vineyard-themed red away jersey in late July, Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart keeps the botanical theme going with their 2025-26 third kit, made by Jako. The black kit features a tonal pattern of various leaf types found in the forests in and around Stuttgart. The club crest and Jako logo on the chest are gold, as are player names and numbers on the back, while sponsor logos on the chest and sleeve are white.

🇫🇷 STADE RENNAIS – Third

Over in France, Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais honours a long-standing staple of its community, the Marché des Lices, with its 2025-26 third kit, made by PUMA. The black kit is adorned with a pattern of red and gold diamonds in the sleeve cuffs and collar, which recall the architecture of the market’s main building, the Halle Martenot. The Marché des Lices has been operating in some fashion for more than 400 years. The club crest and sponsor logos are also rendered in metallic gold.

🇫🇷 PARIS FC – Home and Away

Ligue 1 newcomers (and noisy neighbours to Paris Saint-Germain) Paris FC are looking sharp in their 2025-26 home and away kits, made by adidas. The home kit is navy blue with embossed pinstripes down the front, a white polo collar and light blue piping on the front and sleeves. The away kit, meanwhile, is mostly white with a two-tone blue sash running diagonally down the front. Accents like piping and shoulder stripes are navy blue.

🇫🇷 OGC NICE – Third

Made by Kappa, Ligue 1 side OGC Nice’s 2025-26 third kits are “designed as a love letter to the French Riviera,” drawing inspiration from the Mediterran Sea and the “sun-drenched lands of the region.” The kit is mainly blue, inspired by the sea, with tonal pinstripes as “a subtle nod to the elegance of summer suits.” The polo collar, sleeve cuffs and club crest are a terra cotta colour.

🇫🇷 TOULOUSE FC – Away

Toulouse is known as the Pink City, so it’s only fitting that Ligue 1 side Toulouse FC would go with pink for their 2025-26 away kit, made by Nike. The base of the kit is bright pink, with a tonal pattern covering the front featuring the Occitan cross. The collar is white with a purple insert at the front, and the sleeve cuffs are diagonally split between white and purple.

🇫🇷 OLYMPIQUE DE MARSEILLE – Third

Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille are taking to their 2025-26 third kits, made by PUMA, like a duck to water. The pixelated pattern on the front of the blue jersey is “inspired by the contours and undulations of the sea” while also representing “a wave of containers arriving at the port of Marseille.” Light blue panels run under the arms, while the light blue collar and sleeve cuffs and trimmed in a neon shade of yellow inspired by the jackets worn by local dock workers.

🇫🇷 LE HAVRE AC – Home

Ligue 1 side Le Havre has partnered with Umbro to produce their new 2025-26 home kits, which harken back to the style of the 1990s. The design keeps Le Havre’s traditional half light blue, half navy blue motif, but adds contrasting pinstripes on both sides. Light blue pinstripes also run through the polo collar, while the sleeve cuffs are solid navy blue.

🇮🇹 SSC NAPOLI – Third

Defending Italian Serie A champions SSC Napoli are hoping they get a jolt out of their 2025-26 third kits, made by EA7. The dark brown shirt is a nod to the coffee culture of Naples, which the club says is “a daily ritual, a moment of sharing, and a symbol deeply rooted in the soul of the Neapolitan people.” The shirt is embossed with the same pattern of vertical stripes and Ns as the club’s 2025-26 home kit. Trim on the polo collar and sleeve cuffs is Napoli’s signature light blue, as are the club crest and sponsor logos.

🇮🇹 SS LAZIO – Third

Serie A side SS Lazio and Mizuno have joined forces on a third kit for 2025-26 that is “designed to best express the values that have always guided the Club: identity, innovation, and a sense of belonging.” The navy blue base features a retro crest from the 1970s both on the chest and as a tonal pattern stretching across the entire front of the shirt. The raglan sleeves are solid navy blue, with a light blue stripe around the sleeve cuffs.

🇮🇹 COMO 1907 – Away

Serie A side Como 1907 looks to draw strength from its 2025-26 away kit, made by adidas. The light grey pattern on the white base of the kit is meant to mimic marble and create a contemporary look. Accents like the tapering side panels, underarm panels, piping, crew neck collar and shoulder stripes are all royal blue.

🇮🇹 PISA SC – Home and Away

Pisa SC celebrates its return to Serie A in 2025-26 with golden touches on its home kit, made by adidas. The club’s traditional blue and black vertical stripes are punctuated by narrow gold stripes in between, along with gold piping and shoulder stripes. The away kit, meanwhile, is more yellow than gold, but it’s still a celebration of the club’s forward momentum. Blue and black stripes run horizontally across the chest, and the shoulder stripes are blue while other accents are black.

🇮🇹 UDINESE CALCIO – Away

Another team throwing it back to the 1990s for their 2025-26 away kit is Serie A side Udinese Calcio, whose Macron jersey features a sublimated pattern that is “a dynamic mix of irregular, shaded geometric shapes in white and light blue, inspired by the bold graphic style of 1990s football kits.” Navy blue trim appears on the collar, while the sleeve cuffs are split between navy blue and light blue with red trim on the outer edges.

🇮🇹 US SASSUOLO – Away

Serie A side US Sassuolo are focusing on “pure lines and an essential and elegant aesthetic” with their 2025-26 away kit, made by PUMA. The kit is solid white, with green panels down the sides and under the arms. The polo collar and sleeve cuffs are black with white striping, and a white-and-green version of the club crest sits on the left chest.
