The New Orleans Saints will wear their new gold alternate jerseys in today’s season opener against the Arizona Cardinals, which kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
The gold jerseys, which were unveiled this summer, feature black numbers outlined in white, a contrasting collar and the Saints’ primary logo on the sleeves, matching the design of their black home and white road jerseys.
They’re an exact replica of the gold jerseys the Saints wore in a 32-31 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in 2002, which remains the only time in franchise history they’ve deviated from black or white jerseys.

The only difference between the jerseys New Orleans wore in 2002 and those they’ll wear this afternoon is the fabric and manufacturer, as Reebok used shimmer fabric and Nike uses matte fabric.
The gold jerseys will also be paired this time with the Saints’ black alternate helmets – which were introduced in 2022 – and black pants on Sunday while they wore their standard gold helmets and black pants in 2002.
This will mark the first time the black alternate helmets will be worn with something other than New Orleans’ Color Rush uniforms after the league relaxed its rules this year to allow teams to mix-and-match their alternate helmets with their primary and alternate jerseys.
The Saints are 0-4 all time in their black alternate helmets and 0-1 in gold jerseys, so a victory on Sunday would likely offset some of the negative reaction that followed their respective unveilings. The Cardinals, meanwhile, will counter with their usual all-white road set.
Additionally, New Orleans has painted the end zones at Mercedes-Benz Superdome gold to match the jerseys. It’s the first time the Saints have had a gold end zone since the victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.
