The Philadelphia 76ers confirmed an earlier leak on Wednesday when they unveiled Allen Iverson-era Hardwood Classic uniforms in honor of the 25th anniversary of the 2000-01 Eastern Conference champions and their run to the NBA Finals.
The black uniforms are almost an exact replica of what the 76ers wore on the road from 2000-07, with the iconic “Sixers” shooting star-style wordmark across the chest, though they don’t feature the dazzle fabric or wider “cutoff” shoulders from that era.
The look is complete with red and gold trim on collar, arm holes, waistband and bottom of the shorts, which include their secondary logo on the right leg. Philadelphia wore similar uniforms from 1997-2000, as well, though it included a red outline around the wordmark.
“Some of my favorite memories came when I was wearing this uniform,” former 76ers guard Eric Snow said. “This uniform represented the connection of players with the city and 76ers fans. Although we didn’t accomplish our ultimate goal … I still meet people wherever I go who speak about the passion they had for our team and that run.”
The 76ers went 56-26 in 2000-01 but lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals in five games. Iverson was named the league’s Most Valuable Players after averaging 31.1 points, 4.6 assists and 2.5 steals per game, while center Dikembe Mutombo and head coach Larry Brown were named Defensive Player and Coach of the Year, respectively.
“This uniform is more than just a piece of fabric, it represents and era of franchise history that embraced a distinct identity and captured the attention of the entire city,” chief operating officer Lara Price said. “To see these uniforms back out on that court will bring back a lot of nostalgia, and we are excited to share that in many different ways with our fans this season.”
Philadelphia will debut the uniforms, which now feature a crypto.com advertisement on the left shoulder and a classic Nike Swoosh on the right, when it hosts the Toronto Raptors on Nov. 8. They will be worn 20 times, including 14 home games and six road contests.
The 76ers will also play on a court that is inspired by their 2000-01 design, with their primary logo at midcourt, secondary logo inside the three-point lines and a black out-of-bounds area with a “Sixers” wordmark along the baselines.
The original design had a blue circle behind the logo at midcourt, as well as primarily blue lanes with black college lanes, which matched the blue alternate uniforms they debuted that season. There were also shooting star-style ball logos that entered the court on opposing sidelines.
