The Denver Broncos will wear navy blue from head to toe for the first time since they unveiled their current uniform design when they host the Cincinnati Bengals in one of two Monday Night Football games this evening (8:15 p.m. ET on ABC).
It’s not surprising, though, as the Broncos and team president Damani Leech led the charge for the NFL to relax its uniform rules this offseason and allow teams to mix and match their primary and alternate uniform elements.
Denver was previously only permitted to wear its standard navy blue helmets with its home orange or white road jerseys and its white alternate helmets with its navy blue alternate jerseys, which were all unveiled as part of a uniform redesign last season.
The Broncos wore navy blue jerseys just once in 2024 as a result, pairing them with their white alternate helmets and navy pants in a 41-32 win over the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football last December.
That said, Denver has a long history of wearing all-blue uniforms, dating back to the unveiling of their previous design in 1997, wearing it exclusively that preseason and then again at least once in 2003 and from 2006-07, 2009-15, 2017-18 and 2020-23.
The look was always finished off with matching blue socks, just as it will be tonight, though it wasn’t until the most redesign that Denver had the option to wear orange or white socks instead.
Additionally, the Broncos have painted the natural grass surface at Empower Field at Mile High with a matching design that includes their primary logo at midfield and navy blue end zones with a white “Broncos” wordmark outlined in orange.
This will mark the first time that Denver has used navy blue end zones at home, though the color was used as the backdrop for their end zone designs in Super Bowl XXXII, XXXIII, XLVIII and 50. They’ve also used grass-colored, orange and white end zones in recent seasons.
