Surprise! Los Angeles Kings Unveil New Crown Uniforms, Silver Helmets on Opening Night

They’ve earned that crown!

The Los Angeles Kings pulled off a rare surprise new uniform unveiling on Opening Night, and they did it right in front of everyone.

After warming up in their standard home set on Tuesday night, the Kings returned for introductions wearing a new black-sweatered, silver-helmeted third uniform built around the original Los Angeles Kings crown logo, recoloured silver and black. No teaser, no leak, no press conference: in 2025, that’s darn near impossible.

This new crown third jersey brings the club’s original 1967 symbol back to the front of a uniform, but redeveloped for modern uniform standards. The crown itself is now loaded with features that we didn’t see back in the 1960s, including reflective thread, raised 3D embroidery, and metallic silver twill. The jersey is black with a single, thick silver striping on each arm and around the waist, similar to the striping on the Kings’ original uniforms.

Player name and numbers are single-colour silver in a typeface designed to match the “KINGS” lettering on their primary logo.

As is the Kings’ style of late, the third uniform comes with a silver helmet, which sticks out as much as you’d think it would when paired with an otherwise all-black set. Unlike their last two silver helmets, this one doesn’t appear to be shiny/chrome, but instead has a matte finish. The Kings first wore the chrome domes outdoors during the 2020 Stadium Series game in Colorado. They then paired them with their 1990s-inspired third uniforms from 2021 to 2024.

Because it’s a dark third, the Kings will wear it primarily at home, with it appearing in 14 home games and two on the road this season.

The Kings’ first third uniform is now infamously referred to as the “Burger King” jersey, characterized by a white top with a grey sash and a king’s head in the upper corner. After lasting a mere couple of months in 1996, the Kings waited three years to introduce another, a purple sweater with a crown logo on the chest. Their most recent third jersey, a slightly different version of what the club wears for road games now, was retired following the 2023-24 season.
