Messi Fends Off Surging Son Heung-Min to Stay at Top of List of MLS Best-Selling Jerseys

Despite a surge in jersey sales when he signed for Los Angeles Football Club, Son Heung-Min wasn’t able to overtake Lionel Messi in the race for the best-selling jersey in Major League Soccer this season.

MLS provided its list of the league’s 10 top-selling jerseys on MLSStore.com to SportsLogos.net this week. As of Thursday, October 23, the Inter Miami and Argentina forward was still top of the list, with the South Korean in second place.

LAFC president and general manager John Thorrington told talkSPORT about a week after he signed for an MLS record transfer fee in August that Son’s jersey was “the highest-selling jersey of any sport in the world right now.”

But that wasn’t enough to overtake Messi, who has now finished at the top of the last five lists of the league’s best-selling jerseys, which are typically released at the middle and end of each season.

In third place is Hirving “Chucky” Lozano, a forward for expansion team San Diego FC. Lozano led SDFC to a surprising first-place finish in the Western Conference, edging ahead of the Vancouver Whitecaps —with whom they were tied on points — by virtue of one more win. SDFC currently leads their first-round best-of-three series against the Portland Timbers thanks to a 2-1 victory on Sunday, October 26.
