The inscrutable viral trend that is six-seven has seeped its way into the world of collegiate summer baseball. The State College Spikes, a team in the MLB Draft League, will play as the Six Sevens on June 7 next season. The Spikes will wear uniforms emblazoned with the script Six Seven, underscored by a pair of palm-up hands evoking a gesture associated with the trend.
In a press release announcing the brand, State College Spikes President & General Manager Scott Walker played along: “When asked to describe what Spikes fans would think of Six Seven Night, [Walker] could only make a juggling motion with his hands and say ‘six seven.'”
The six-seven trend is a bit hard to explain for those not in the know. Per Merriam Webster, it is “a nonsensical expression used especially by teens and tweens that is connected to a rap song and also to a 6’ 7” tall basketball player.” More specifically, the number pairing might have originated with the Skrilla song “Doot Doot (6 7)” or as a reference to 6′ 7″ NBA player LaMelo Ball.
Dictionary.com declared 67 (or 6 7, or 6-7, or six-seven, but NEVER sixty-seven) to be its 2025 word of the year, explaining that after it began in June, “It was quickly reinforced by viral TikToks featuring basketball players and a young boy who will forevermore be known as the ’67 Kid.’ Within weeks, teachers were trading tips online about how to get their students to stop saying 67 all day long.”
Wherever it came from, it will be on the field in State College, Pennsylvania, next year on June 7.
