The New York Giants will wear throwback uniforms (of sorts) for the second time in as many weeks, as they’ll be outfitted in their “Vintage White” threads during Sunday’s game at the Chicago Bears (1 p.m. ET on FOX).
The uniforms, which were actually introduced as their Color Rush set in 2016, are modeled after what the Giants wore on the road from 1980-99, with navy blue numbers outlined in red and a traditional navy blue and red striping pattern on the collar, cuffs and down the sides of the pants.
They were initially paired with their standard blue helmets due to the NFL’s one-helmet rule, with New York swapping the decals and facemasks to complete the classic-inspired look. But that changed in 2023, one season after the league relaxed its rules to allow for a second shell.
The Giants unveiled the home version of their 1980-99 throwback uniforms, now known as their “Legacy” set, in 2022. That included a historically accurate navy blue helmet, so New York decided to wear that shell with the Color Rush set in a 14-9 loss at the Buffalo Bills in 2023.
It’s been the only appearance for the combination to this point, as the Giants shelved the Color Rush uniforms last season to make way for their “Century Red” throwback set, which celebrated their 100th season. However, they’re also set to return on Nov. 16 against the Green Bay Packers.
New York is 1-8 in its Color Rush uniforms since they were revealed, but are 3-3-1 overall in the navy blue helmets. That includes last weekend’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the “Legacy” threads, which will be worn again on Dec. 14 when the Giants host the Washington Commanders.
