Cleveland Browns Beat Las Vegas Raiders In New Uniform Combination’s Debut

The Cleveland Browns wore their white alternate helmets with something other than their 1946 throwback uniforms for the very first time when they travelled to Las Vegas this past weekend, where they beat the Raiders 24-10.

The white helmets, which were introduced in 2023, were paired with their standard white road jerseys, orange pants and striped white socks. This hadn’t been allowed until the NFL relaxed its uniform rules this offseason to allow teams to mix-and-match their alternate and primary uniform elements.

The Browns are now 3-4 in their white helmets, which feature a brown and orange striping pattern and a brown facemask, since they were added to their wardrobe, this includes a 20-16 loss to those very same Raiders last season in Las Vegas, as shown in the photos below.

The franchise originally wore plain white helmets from its inception in 1946 until a solid orange leather option was introduced in 1950 to comply with league rules that required teams to wear helmets that contrasted with the white football used during night games.

They ultimately were phased out entirely by the 1952 season, and the Browns exclusively wore orange helmets until the current white helmets were added in 2023. They didn’t introduce orange pants until 1975, meanwhile, so they never had an opportunity to wear Sunday’s combination until this season.

Cleveland is the fourth team to take advantage of the relaxed rules this year, joining the Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles, though they’ll soon be joined by the Carolina Panthers, who will wear their black alternate helmets with their white road uniforms on Monday Night Football.

The Browns won’t have another chance to do it this season, though, as they’ll max out the number of times they can wear an alternate or throwback uniform when they wear their new brown “Alpha Dawg” alternate helmets and all-brown Color Rush uniforms against the Tennessee Titans on Dec. 7.

They were also worn in a 13-10 win over the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 21 and a 31-6 win over the Miami Dolphins on Oct. 19, meaning the 1946 throwback uniforms will not make an appearance in 2025 (unless the Browns ask for and are granted a waiver from the league).
