The new USL League Two franchise in Ohio has plumbed the depths of nearby Lake Erie for its identity.
The team announced at an event last week that the team — which is joining USL League Two in 2026 — would be known as Lorain County Leviathan FC, and they unveiled a crest featuring a fearsome monster rising out of the waters of Lake Erie.

“The Leviathan was chosen by the community,” team chairman Andrew McDonnell said at the unveiling event, according to The Morning Journal. “People connected with different parts of Lorain County, whether it was the lake or farming or the quarry or the history of the steel mills. Over 50% of the people who voted chose this logo.”
Leviathan beat out three other finalists in a name-the-team contest:
- Lorain County FC
- Lorain County Blast FC
- Lorain County Quarrymen FC
The team’s colours include light blue, dark blue, two shades of teal and bright yellow. Sitting at the bottom of the crest in yellow is the Lorain Lighthouse.
The team is also using a secondary logo depicting just the sea monster’s head on its website and social media channels. They’re also selling kids’ and baby merchandise with a cuter, less intense version of the sea monster in the crest.

Lorain County Leviathan FC is based in Avon, Ohio, about 45 minutes east of Cleveland. They’ll play their home matches at ForeFront Field, which they’ll share with the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League.
